I think it's something to with the coefficients system.

So obviously nothing to do with the term "Champions" then,,,,

Well, good for someStill, a game is a game, and you take offside goals against you with equanimity - don't you? I just hope Mrs O doesn't meet up with too many Yorkists on her trip back to Ilkley. Amazing crowd for Luton, who sold over three times as many tickets for this match as the opposition. Reminiscent of the Trophy final in their relegation year (which one, I hear you ask), when they held the record for most tickets sold by any club for a Wembley match.

Ivo, while I admire the work you've put into that, you do realise that until the 1997-98 Champions League, you could only qualify for the competition by winning your domestic league or being the current holders?

Which begs the question, where are they every other week? Not at Kenilworth Road, that's for sure.

But of course. I thought it would be interesting to compare the fortunes of repeat winners (e.g. Bayern '74/'75/'76) in comparison to their League performance, to see whether they would have qualified otherwise. (It also makes the table more consistent.)

My impression is that there is a large core of loyal local fans of whom a high percentage go to home games. But, surprisingly perhaps, there are also large numbers around the country, who go to the away games they can. I suspect there will be a huge sigh of relief around the Coloured Shape league that Luton have stayed down, because they usually mean a large gate. I guess this may be because anyone in their right mind wants to leave Luton so they spread round the country more than most. But when they get together at eg Barrow, the dominant accent is Luton!

Easy. 2009. Prevented Nigel Adkins from completing a Wembley double that year

Doesnt seem that long ago (although it probably was and im getting old) you lot were in the top division and were always a difficult away game due to that damn plastic pitch

I can certainly remember Luton - Liverpool in the FA cup, when Xabi Alonso scored from the halfway line. Must have been something like 7 years ago.

A great game - and Gerrard's reaction to seeing Alonso's shot was priceless

Or not even particularly near in some cases - like Motherwell who finished 11 points behind Rangers in 3rd place despite us having a 10 point penalty!

Default Looking on the bright side

It's more about filthy lucre than football, unfortunately:

Wolves may be back in the Championship but at least the air there is cleaner.

José Mourinho will not be the new Liverpool nor Chelsea manager - Sky sports news reporting that he has signed a contract extension at Real Madrid.

I thought Arsenal would have held the record when they played their champions league matches at Wembley.

I had a good laugh when I read that the reason why Luton took so many people to Wembley this year was because they have all these real supporters all over the country. Luton like all other clubs have people who become "supporters" for the day as the local team is playing at Wembley and its a day out.
