Default London to Paignton & back - your best price please!

What's the cheapest I can get a London - Paignton return for? Probably sometime later this month/early Sept. Travelling midweek, off peak, returning midweek or maybe a Saturday, also off peak.

Cheapest I can find so far is £43.75 (Anytime return, with a PRIV, route Honiton). Can anyone improve on that by splitting?

TYIA

edit to add: I don't mind which route, either from Paddington or Waterloo is fine.

There are a lot of advances still around, which are cheaper than using your PRIV. For example, I've just searched for 4th Sept and there is a £17.00 Adv for the 10.00 from Paddington arriving at 13.43, and a £17.00 Adv for the 19.33 back from Paignton, so £34 in total.

The cheapest will be a £6.50 Advance fare each way, although these are very hard to come by now that others have had 8 weeks to snap them up already.

Assuming that you are not making the return journey on the same day then:

London Terminals - Southampton Central
Route Southern Only
Anytime Return
£13.15 PRIV

Southampton Central - Paignton
Route Via Salisbury
Anytime Return
£12.35 PRIV

Total: £25.50

That is a promotional fare, which is not currently available. It would be astonishing to have such a cheap fare available on a regular basis!

The cheapest fare available is £12.50.

Thanks for all the replies. Advances would be good, but I don't really know when I will be travelling yet (and it might be a bit short notice) so that rules them out.

That's a good one, especially as I could do the London to Soton bit on a staff pass for free, cheers.

That looks promising and quicker than via Soton, thank you. I'm assuming 2 x singles as NRE doesn't show an anytime return (why would that be?)

Period returns for many flows were scrapped by Network South East, partly due to ticket fraud as on many journeys they don't get inspected and therefore remain unclipped and reusable. Period returns on some of these flows were reintroduced post-privatisation. Some only for off-peak travel.

London Terminals - Andover Route Any Permitted has an Off-Peak Return but no Anytime Return. For travel at restricted times or for the purpose of Priv discounts, you need an Anytime Day Single/Return.
