Default BRI - CDF Routing question

Is it permissible to go from Temple Meads to Cardiff Central by going to Bristol Parkway and then changing trains there and heading to Cardiff. I know there are direct trains but wondered if this was allowed if there were no direct trains for a while.

Yes it is permitted.

I recently did the return route (Cardiff Central - Exeter St Davids)

East Coast booking site offered the route when I specified via Parkway, and I had no problem going through the barriers at Bristol Parkway for refreshments
