Passenger no. Test yes.

So how come these 2Z services took place last week? Out in passenger service for one day, next minute back on test again and withdrawn from passenger service. I don't understand what is going on, whether the franchise is causing the issues or whether they just aren't ready yet? Can someone enlighten me?

I think it was just so that SWT could say that they introduced the new trains.

Siemens have only officially handed over 2 units so far. Worth remembering they don't want these units sitting down on the Queenstown ladder during Waterloo works either where they're new and possibly quite unreliable with teething problems.

I'm not sure they have been officially handed over, last weeks passenger run was purely to meet franchise commitments.

I remember reading that 2 units (I think 7003 and 7005) had been officially accepted into traffic.

They will always be used as 4-digit numbers internally, I suspect. ;)

The new Aventras to be 7x1xxx, 7x2xxx or 7x3xxx then...

158 88xx
159 9xxx
444 4xxx
450 0xxx
455 5xxx
456 6xxx
458 85xx
707 7xxx

At the moment I beleive they are running Staines-Reading so when will they expand out to other places or do SWR want to keep them hidden for the moment

Incorrect, they were accepted by Angel trains on the Wednesday evening (003 and 005), and ran the next day in service for SWT.
They are not running through the Waterloo blockade for obvious reasons, too risky having one pair of new trains out there.
The next units (004 and 006) are a week or two behind the first too, unless of any unexpected issues, so watch this space for late August to early September!
Of course the aim was to have a pair in service whilst still with SWT.

It is all down to available pathways, different routes some days of the week and especially weekends.

Have any more units been released yet or is it just the two that have already appeared?

Aside from 003 and 005, the guy on the one I rode said they are trying to get another pair accepted soon, and it's probably going to be 004 and 006.

Actually that's a point, what's happening with 1 and 2? Are they getting their pans removed before acceptance? Did they make that test run from Farnham to Peterborough in the end?

Will this be a genuine proper entry into service or just a one off like last time (franchise commitment?)?

I wonder if they will now have SWR branding considering they are just sitting at Wimbledon or Clapham Yard.
