Do Not Alight Here: Walking London's Lost Underground and Railway Stations

Just bought a copy of this book.

I haven't had a chance to do any of the walks yet, as it only arrived today. It looks good though. Walks featured include the Crystal Palace (High Level) line, and the Nunhead to Greenwich branch line.

First I have heard about this book and I presume my friend Mr.J.(Jim) Connor (expert and author of many books on London' s Disused Stations) is aware of this.

There is very little of the Crystal Palace High Level line to see or walk along. The only station with any remains is Upper Sydenham. The two blocked up tunnels can be seen.
The Nunhead- Greenwich Park branch is in use between Nunhead- site of Lewisham Road station. East of Lewisham Road station is a short section of embankment just to the east of St. Johns Station and then ...nothing. Ariel photographs of the route shows the alignment of the infilled cutting.

I used to live in the area, so they are of particular interest to me. There's part of the old embankment for the CP(HL) line at Brenchley Gardens, and until fairly recently there was the remains of a bridge abutment too. This part isn't covered by the book though.

On the Greenwich line there's what used to be Lewisham Road station (I used to pass it often), which is featured.

Its quite a nice book, I bought it for my Mum as a Christmas present, as she is keen on doing walks (both urban and rural). Some of the walks mentioned are quite local to me!
