Default Coast and Peaks 4in8 Rover

Basically - tomorrow I want to board the 0842 EMT to Manchester from Sheffield but the ticket is only valid after 0845 () so if I buy a ticket to Dore will it be valid? The train doesn't stop but I am unsure about whether this could be classed as a season ticket it because the ALR is classed as one?

THanks for any help

Your fine, from the NRCoC:

Quote:
19. Using a combination of tickets

You may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover the entire journey and one of the following applies:

(a) they are both Zonal Tickets unless special conditions prohibit their use in this way. The Ticket Seller will, if you ask, advise you whether you can use a Zonal Ticket in combination with another ticket.

(b) the train you are in calls at a station where you change from one ticket to another;

or

(c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/are not.

You must comply with any restriction shown on the tickets relating to travel in the trains of a particular Train Company or Train Companies (see Condition 10).

If you do not comply with this Condition, you will be treated as having joined the train without a ticket and Condition 2 or 4 will apply, either to the entire journey, or from the last station where the train stopped at which at least one of the tickets was valid.

For the purposes of this Condition, a “leisure travel pass” means any multi-journey ticket (excluding Season Tickets) valid for:

(i) at least 7 consecutive days; or

(ii) at least 3 days in a period of at least 7 consecutive days and includes rover tickets, travel passes, flexipass tickets and BritRail passes
I've bolded the relevant sections for you. To be honest I'd be tempted to have a word with the guard and see if they'd be willing to let you travel without another ticket, after all it's only a couple of minutes before it's officially valid

The other day on a Freedom of Severn & Solent, although I didn't end up boarding the train and waited another 25-30 minutes, a platform dispatcher said he'd have had a word with a guard to use my ticket 5 minutes early on a 10 minute journey. Not all staff bite!

On a side note, if the train is running 4 down (i.e. at 08.46) can you board then?

No sadly not, the train was due to leave at 0842 and would still be considered a train before 0845, but like others have said a polite word with the guard may allow you travel.
