Wow, some memories there! And of course, the Deltucs were really in their last days by that time... soon it will be 35 years since that final farewell tour... and now I feel old....!

Four new locomotives. Fifteen withdrawn.
A direct result of Beeching: closure of lines but retention of the rolling stock resulting in overprovision and a dearth of significant numbers of new motive power for close to twenty years. Instead we soldiered on with antiquated designs, few new orders, with most of the assembly lines and erecting shops being closed or going bust during the late '60s and '70s.
By closing so many lines in such a short period, Beeching and Marples assured the end of significant train building in the UK. What little they didn't kill off was finally eradicated by the order hiatus during the tories privatisation campaign.

You have made photos excellent, Do you think the latest models aren't good? I have a seen a lot of small trains that are available only in UK. 35 years means it really a great value and informative.
