Default class 170 refurbishment question

Why is it the units being refurbished appear to be the more recent builds with no work on the ex Hull units and the 1999 build units. I presume they have been refreshed since they were built

Also what work are the 320s having done internally as they were due an extensive refurbishment. All I have heard is the new DDA toilets

I presume you're referring to the Scotrail units opposed to 170s in general.

Probably it's to do with when the leases expire. Do up the ones you know you'll have for five years and leave the ones you might lose in two years time.

Why would ScotRail be losing Class 170 units in two years time?
It is possible the next franchisee could replace (swap) the unit types, but it wouldn't be immediate

Yes ScotRail.

Thanks.

Out of interest anyone with pocket books of DMUs etc. What do you do when a livery changes. If it is a new livery do you invent a new code? There is little room to cross out the liveries and insert new one in the pocket books. Wondering what other people do or do you create online spreadsheets?

When InterCity livery first appeared the books used I
This was later revised to INTERCITY so I added a C to give IC so that I knew which were in this specific livery, and from memory Platform 5 used a similar setup when there were eventually 4 different versions of this livery (InterCity then became IO)

Presumably the Platform 5 book you have does not include the latest Scotlands One Railway livery
As above, just add one additional letter to make identification easier

Lack of space has always been an issue and criticism of Platform 5 books
Personally, make your own list of livery codes and then add this after each unit in the available space
Eventually you may need to replace the book anyway, I used to do so each two years along with the several hours of transferring all records

One entire coach out of three for First Class is not required for use in ScotRail
Edwkkf to the normal format and as near to the standard Seating Plan as possible

ScotRail are currently putting their later build Class 170 trains (393-396, 425-434, 450-461, 472-478) through a refurbishment programme. The ex Hull Trains units will be done at some point, probably after the current batch of units. 170425-432 have already been done and they are now onto 450-461, although they may stop at 457 as 458-461 have no first class in them, neither do 472-478 so the hull trains units may be done then.
You can follow the progress of the refurb here: http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/page/Clas...ails+2011-2013
In regards to the 320s, they are having a DDA toilet fitted, a chime is being added to tell passengers when the doors are unlocked and yaw dampers were fitted to allow 90mph running.
