The quality is great but as I've said before, try and increase the shutter speed so to get rid of any motion blur.

If my calculations are correct, even using a shutter speed of 1/800th sec will encounter movement of over 3cm for an object travelling at 60MPH so complete elimination of motion blur is very difficult.

It also doesn't help that images may be viewed at quite large sizes which will magnify the effect. Given that use of very short exposure times will tend to result in noiser images, is there really any way of eliminating motion blur when photographing moving trains at quite close quarters?

In that sort of light, a shutter speed of 1/1200 sec could have been achieved easily on ISO 200 and judging by Jon's camera, ISO 200 wouldn't be very noisy.

http://www.richard-armstrong.fotopic.net/p35442965.html That photo was taken using a shutter speed of 1/1000 at quite a wide angle compared to Jon's two photos and there is hardly any motion blur with the 222 travelling at 100+ mph. Now considering those 86s would be travelling at 75mph max and the nuclear flasks at a max of 60mph, a shutter speed of 1/800 would have done perfectly well for the DRS and maybe 1/1000 for the Freightliner.

As always, it's part of a photographers craft to select the best exposure parameters...
