I hear that the Solari at Liverpool St has now been decommissioned.

Not sure if its OOU yet, but last time I was there new boards were in place, albeit on temporary scaffolding, in readiness to become operational.

Today I saw paddington style boards under the Solaris. Everyone was bunching close under them and it was chaos, so I hope they'll learn a lesson and keep the solaris boards which have yet to have a better replacement at long distance.
Reminds me of the fact that cinemas still use high quality film instead of low quality digital projection. |

London Waterloo once had Solari indicators, before being replaced by plasma screens, then LED screens, and just recently they've been supplemented by big boards where the Solaris used to be :d
Does anyone remember the mini solaris on platforms and what they looked like? |

The reason there is now only one station in the entire country (Watford Junction) using the boards is because of 2 reasons: 1) spare parts are becoming scarce (although I don't understand this reason when the Solari Udine factory is still going strong in Italy). 2) the lack of flexibility especially in times of disruption. I remember reading about a month ago a station in America which replaced the Solari indicators with an LED board only to get a lot of complaints from the passengers about not knowing when the boards had changed (as the sound gives it away on a Solari) - the answer they used was to record a Solari board noise and put a speaker next to the LED boards and play the noise whenever they changed... |

You are right, the LST boards are only temporary. Now the solaris have gone at LST, the webcams have also been taken offline
http://www.vicinitee.com/liverpoolstreetlive/index.cfm This page also confirms the current departure boards are temporary.

Heh. I managed to get a screenshot of the webcams showing the boards flicking over. I'll see if I can dig it out.

As fantastoc as they are, they are a bit inefficient. The number of gaps is pretty large. Maybe the new boards'll be easier to read?
If they're like the ones at Glasgow and Edinburgh, they'll be fantastic indeed. |

On the subject of new boards, St Albans City has got some new ones and they are S**t! Condensation blows them up and some of the letters are missing :\
