Default Any Olympus E400 Digital SLR User's ?

Hi Folks
I have been tasked by a friend to suss out a Cheap DSLR for his daughters Christmas , his budget is £300 ( Max Spend £350 a push, past this their is no more room for flexibility).

I have been ploughing the various adds & websites & the only two I can see fall in to that bracket are the Olympus E400 Digital and Nikon D-40, On the specs front the Olympus E400 looks to be head an shoulders above the Nikon & a few other cameras costing £100 plus more than it , it boasts such features as Supersonic wave filter dust protection system & a super wide 14mm - 42mm lens & has a massive 2.6 inch screen , 31 shooting modes Continuous shooting at 3fps & it has 10 million pixels picture resolution, 4 million more than the only other camera that matches it in price.

But my main reason for posting is to hear if anyone has had hands on experience of the camera & one other thing makes me reluctant to recommend it is that the lens mount is not as common as other Camera's , I am uncertain if the likes of Sigma , Tamron or ToKina make them in the required mount or would one be forced to buy Olympus's own lens?

Any comments advice & suggestions welcomed & greatly appreciated as always
