If I wanted to travel from Staines to Chelmsford with a bit of a bash in London on the travelcard zones - and not currently having a FAM with 1ad 1ch I would have thought this would be the best option:
Buy FAM (£20) Staines - London TC (£8.75 discounted) BZ6 - Chelmsford (£5.75 discounted) Rather than Staines - London TC (£15.85) BZ6 - Chelmsford (£9.75) Sure I wouldn't make a saving on this trip but I would on the next ones I make - what does everyone else think? |

I say go for it - I'm the other named cardholder on my Mum's railcard and it's great when you're out with friends under 16 as it saves them a packet!

I'll be doing something similar the next time I take the train down to London unless I book in advance. A saver is about £90, so it's cheaper to pay the £20 for a YP card, get the saver for £60ish and save a tenner

Why not go for it? You've theoretically lost a tenner on this journey alone, and to make up the tenner would only take a few more trips. Definately a worthwhile risk.
