Default NSE "Inside Story"

I saw this on YouTube a while ago but forgot to post it. Basically it's a BBC documentary following following people from Network South East, highlighting all the problems they had!

First video is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-peIDOiTt8 and then follow the video responses for the rest!

Ah yes, BR, oh so bad, we better sell it. Everyone at the time was convinced privatisation was such a good thing after programmes like that. I'll let folk draw their own conclusions.

Has anyone got a copy of the InterCity version of this from the same time, apparently it focused on the East Coast Main Line.

Whilst on the subject of BBC and Railways has anyone found a copy of the Panorama "On the wrong line" documentary from 2001?

It'd be interesting to see exactly how many documentaries the BBC have done on the railways! I remember a series a few years back where the top management went to work at the bottom of the company and one of the episodes was with a TOC (Wagn I think).

You mean this one? It was called Railwatch and ran for a week around 1987/8 I believe. The ECML was in the course of being electrified, which you can see from the first 3 vids. It was actually live and was on around 2pm during the week on BBC1 and was repeated in the evening.

The InterCity episode of Inside Story featured the snow of February 1991, one train they followed had to do Wakefield-Leeds at about walking speed and the next day it was hauled by a Class 47. Apparently class 317s worked trains to Newcastle but this was not featured in the programme.

Talking of railway related documentaries, I have a bit of a question relating to a more recent one that I saw being filmed. 8)

A few years ago - Back around early 2006CE I think, it was before the smoking ban came in at any rate - I was changing trains at Brookwood and enjoying a cigarette on the platform when my train (A 450) arrived. Not wanting to miss it, I employed my usual technique of standing in the doorway (To block an optical sensor used to check that doors are clear before closing) whilst finishing off my cigarette as we still had a few minutes to go until the scheduled departure time.

Upon noticing this, the Guard - Followed by a cameraman and a producer - Took a few of steps towards me and asked me not to smoke in the doorway, a request with which I complied. I did have a couple of words with the cameraman who said they were filming a railway orientated fly-on-the-wall that followed SWT staff in their daily jobs (A railway version of Airport) and that it would be screened on the BBC at some later point.

Although I've kept my eyes open for it, I've never seen any evidence of the programme in question anywhere online. Does anyone know if the programme was eventually broadcast, and if so what the name of the programme was? I'd be interested to see if my brief appearance above made the final cut! 8)

Farewell, and thanks in advance for any info!

I,m tired of people whinging about track maintenance. Its needs to be done. There would be more whinging when the trains come off the railways due to lack of maintenance. Any way WOOOO go slammers

The intercity documentary you are referring to is Inside Story: Railway. I can't find anything of it online at all other than a video that was released in 1991 by the BBC titled BBC Video World Volume 3 Issue 16. It was a compilation VHS with some other popular BBC shows on there but that was sold on EBAY about 3 months ago. If anyone could dig it out and transfer it or even send it over to me I will pay good money for it!

I remember watching this cracking documentary at the time and it was nice to see my old railway stomping ground - albeit under some strain with the total route modernisation underway. All those EPB's not long for this world The staff tackled their challenges with much patience and humour

As I said in a previous thread I enjoyed it very much espicially the EPBs most of all. I am sure yorksrob will agree!

Indeed, It was quite an impressive performance by all concerned, bearing in mind the South Eastern had to cope with a small collision, a major terrorist incident and a one under in addition to the usual problems associated with a line upgrade.
