Default Are train tickets recycleable?

(No, I don't mean giving to someone else to use!)

Light card can normally be recycled wherever paper is, but does the magnetic strip mean train tickets can't be recycled?

I don't think it is a barrier to recycling, but given that you will find literally thousands of used tickets for sale at most open days or other railway events with lots of sales stalls, there is clearly a thriving collectables market for them...

Yes, SWT recycles all the tickets that are collected in the barriers.

The people of Hyde do their bit for the envronment. Train tickets to and from Newton for Hyde are definitely recycled. Passengers use the tickets and leave them in holes in the brickwork. Then other passengers pick them up and use them again, when they get back they leave them for the next passenger.

Not entirely sure what the magnetic strip is made of but this shouldn't be a problem for recycling - will most likely get removed at the same stage as the ink and any other contaminants.

Yeah. There's generously and like-minded folks around here too.

When they get a parking ticket (for leaving their car somewhere that they shouldn't) they often leave the ticket on the roadside when they drive away so that somone else may pick it up.

Yes they can be recycled, FCC encourages the recycling of tickets, paper etc...

But seriously, and whilst I have some criticisms of the broader aims and claims of product recycling (rather than prevention of the manufacture of unneccessary products), I'm struggling to see how mere railway tickets (with their very disperse distribution) could be a viable resource for a recycling procedure.
There is probably much more benefit to be gained by monetarising infrastructure materials and waste. Or even preserving the asset value of the infrastructure (which means more vigour in controlling cable theft).

I got fined for that.

Caught on CCTV accepting a ticket from a departing motorist.

"Ticket is not transferable"

£50 fine for having an invalid ticket in my windscreen, reduced to £25 for early settlement.

Never done that again.

Well if a TOC is disposing of 1000s of retained tickets from their barriers every day, they'll have a choice.

Dispose of in recyclable waste bins at a lower rate with their waste management co.

Or

Dispose of in mixed-landfill waste bins at a premium rate with their waste management co.

Its a great way of beating the system!

No problem composting them either (after shredding).

Wonder what the ink is made out of, some inks can be plant-based and others a bit more harmful.
