Does anyone know if there are any stats available on the worst line in the country for delays? Not the worst TOC but the worst line. Thanks

I very much doubt such a list is available, as the stats are not compiled that way (and where would each line start/finish? e.g. is York-Leeds a line? or would York-Manchester and York-Blackpool and York-Sheffield via Leeds count separately?).
For TOC data see http://www.rail-reg.gov.uk/upload/pd...ok-2009-10.pdf (page 25). |

In their reporting to the DfT the TOCs have to break their TOC figure down, for example into different service groups, Inner Suburban, Outer Suburan, Interregional etc. Northern is done geographically I believe.

Northern display posters around different stations, and each delay is broken down into area (think there are 5 or 6 areas) such as Tyne and Wear, Yorkshire, Manchester etc.

Nor would I, you seem to spend so much time waiting outside stations so early just before say York turns into a late arrival after 5 minutes waiting for a platform.
Some things I see I just don't get. For example today the Inverness - London services was held up at Doncaster. Passing us was the EMT liveried HST heading to Newcastle. Once it had passed a service from Leeds to London which needed to cross all the lines went ahead of us (it had also stopped to allow the HST to pass). Why we just didn't go through as we were no scheduled to stop at Doncaster is a bit of a mystery, he would not have delayed the Leeds - London service as it was stopped for the Northbound HST anyway. It could have just been that we had arrived at Doncaster early, but just a very off movement. |
