Was a great trip for freight with 071 on the DFDS liner, 076 on the DFDS liner, 083 on the empty timber, 215 on the IWT liner, 217 on the CPW liner and in amongst all that 075 came up from Limerick with a Tara wagon and wheel-carrier and returned with a bogie flat and wheel-carrier. Also in the mix are the usual 22000 DMUs and 201s on Mark 4 sets. Pictures here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...28213471_BN7ZS Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Some shots from the last week are now online starting on the page below. However the highlights are on the second page where today 088 on a PWD passed 082 on the Tara in Balbriggan. Of course, as it happened a black cloud crossed over the sun. But I suppose, c'est la vie! Pictures start with this one: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...33972080_HAFhY Enjoy! Last edited by Csalem; 30th March 2011 at 15:53. Reason: Double post prevention system |

Sadly no, but a number of army helicopters did fly over as the army base is nearby on the Curragh. Didn't want to risk a shot less they respond in kind.

Hi all,
Some shots taken near Adamstown in Dublin today are now online. Highlights include 088 on an empty ballast and 079 with the weedsprayer, marking the start of the 2011 spraying of the network. Shots are on this page: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...488069_4sbJjGr Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Two updates today. College work saw me pop over to Cambridge yesterday. Managed a few train shots including 379 010 and 011. Those pictures here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...316428_KSJk75Q Then having some sterling in my pocket and realising I won't make the IRRS trip in May I popped up North for (possibly) one last trip on the 80 class, and to get some shots of the 450s before the C4k sweep away all in their path. Shots from today's trip are here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...326635_Z5JSFqb Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Working of the year today? 086 brought Mark 3 push/pull control car 6105 and five other Mark 3s from Dublin Heuston to the yard in North Wall. It was one of a number of movements but I only caught the first working. Pictures of it in Drumcondra, along with usual 29000 DMUs and 088 on an empty ballast can be found here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...364699_FCrfR2J Enjoy! Hi all,
Travelled south yesterday to Cork to follow the weedsprayer as it toured the branches. Due to the nature of the lines no run-round facilities are present, so it requires a light loco to follow the train and to bring it back to Cork. Pictures from the day also include 2600 class DMUs which were first railcars in the modern era to arrive in Dublin seventeen years ago and which all moved south a few years ago. Locations include Rushbrooke and Carrigaloe on the scenic Cobh line as well as Midleton and Tivolli. Also includes a shot of a vessel of the Irish Naval Service. Pictures here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...535732_XZnjcgQ Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Some shots from last few days now online showing the a DART being hauled through Balbriggan, Mark 3s in North Wall yard and the weedsprayer heading north yesterday and south today through Balbriggan. Pictures start below and continue on: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...651235_Xh3tDcp Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Something a bit different, and historical, today. In 1959 the five mile Hill of Howth tramway was closed. Most of the route today survives as either a footpath or a road. I decided to walk to former route today and the photographic study of it can be found here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...138216_szb4cBG Enjoy! Hi all,
Was in Austria and Germany last week sampling their railway delights. First upload from the trip covers Vienna, Salzburg and Bratislava. Pictures can be found here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...567914_TQsPT2R Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, The second part of last weeks trip is now online and features shots taken on Wednesday evening and Thursday. Locations include Munich, Augsburg, Kempten, Memmingen and Ulm and feature a variety of traction and trains but predominantly has 218s. However my favourite catch has to be this 225 loading up an army train at Kempten: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug..._SB2sBbp-XL-LB And catching it again in Ulm: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug..._8LDBkB3-XL-LB Rest of the shots here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...805753_rnw3xVZ Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, The final part of last weeks trip to Germany is now online. Locations include Munich, Muhldorf and Landshut. Classes featured include the expected 218s, along with 217s, 225s, ECR 247s (or class 77s, or European 66s) as well as a 103. Sadly I was not able to attend on the day but thanks to the generosity of "The Doctor" I am able to show some shots from the day. Pictures can be found at the link below: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...658550_d5LSnvm Enjoy, and thanks to "The Doctor"! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Bit of a non-railway update though a Luas tram does make an appearance. Instead today's update has the theme of 'visitors'. First up is a quick shot taken last night of Air Force One flying over Balbriggan after taking off from Dublin Airport on its way to London. Sadly the light was fading at the time, but it is still a bit of history: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...9_zBcS8QB-L-LB Next up are some shots from Dublin Port early this morning. Last week we had Queen Elizabeth II in Ireland, but today saw the arrival of the Cunarder Queen Victoria on a cruise from Southampton. This evening she departs Dublin for Cobh on the south coast. Pictures are here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...221310_v3LB3D3 Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Some shots from today and yesterday are now online from Dublin. Include new Rotems on the dockside, 079 with autoballasters, 076 on the IWT liner and the usual mix of DMUs as well as a few ships. The latter are slowly taking over RSI. Pictures start below and continue on: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...240745_Kpfb5rD Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, The three damaged intermediates from Rotem set 22037 (22 437, 22 537, 22 637) returned to Ireland from Springburn in Glasgow yesterday. As they were due into Inchicore Works in Dublin after midnight last night they spent the afternoon in the Lusk M1 Service Station. Some shots can be found here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...048424_JsFzQWT Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Some shots taken in Dublin today are now online. Day starts at Clonsilla and M3 Parkway with the usual 29000 operated Commuter services. Then there is a shift in location to view the morning activity around North Wall yard. Five 071s feature as does the IWT liner and the Tara, the latter featuring on the tramway section on Alexandra Road in the docks. Pictures start below and continue on: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...242047_VBT7cxx Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Some unusual movements today. DART EMU set 8331 and one other were dragged to the DMU depot in Drogheda this morning. Then at lunchtime ICR 22030 worked empty from Drogheda to Dublin, this possibly being only the seventh 22000 to visit the Northern Line. Other shots from today include the usual mix of DMUs and the Enterprise. Pictures start below: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...212194_PqWNW6G Enjoy! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Hi all, Some shots taken today in Gormanston and Drogheda. Highlights include 080 and 088 on the Taras and DART sets 28 and 31 returning to Dublin. Pictures can be found here: http://transportsceneireland.smugmug...551807_hR5zDFt Enjoy!
