Hi all,

Apologies if I've put this thread in the wrong place, or if we've mysteriously got one already running. Not seen it, and I've been meaning to create this thread since 3rd January! Anyway, the name of the game is to post your winners this year, the new bits of haulage you've had this year. I was inspired by theblackwatch's similar thread last year, but instead of doing a summary at the end of the year I felt a running thread throughout the year would be a better idea. OK, so it's two months late but better late than never! Here's my lot so far:

Strangely I'd been thinking of starting such a thread but not got round to it. Here's my loco list, which at present totals 8:

14 Jan: 66002.
21 Jan: 66213.
28 Jan: 30053.
18 Feb: 31235, 47596.
25 Feb: 66030, 66238.
26 Feb: 45379.

Can't be bothered to type out all the units, but I have managed to clear my 322s (last one 481, on Jan 1st) and 159s.

Interesting you should mention it,I've always wondered how others record their DLR action. For example,I had 40 paired with 13 I think (would need to check my notebook) when I had my recent light rail spree. Can't decide whether to count them both in on move or not.

I don't see why not, after all they both power the train don't they?Need to look into it but I know I only count the car I'm in on the Tube and not note all the motor cars, which may seem strange but that's just the easiest way for me to log my Tube haulage.

Thanks for the replies so far, glad to see some interest!

I've had a sum total of two UK engines this year for haulage, both winning sheds in 66085/213 (yawn)

But had a couple of days in France which produced 39 winners from nine different classes which is far more interesting (even if a list of SNCF numbers probably wouldn't be to most!)

Now this is something I've often thought about too. With main line EMUs, then you'll just note the unit number, easy (although I do note the coach number as well), but Tube trains, although they don't have unit nos., do tend to stay in fixed formations (101-201-301 and so on), so you can think of it as set 01 or whatever. That's what I usually did when I used the Undertube fairly often.
But what about a unit (this can apply on the Main line as well) that's coupled to the one you're in? do you count that as well? It's a dilemma, isn't it.

If its powering the train I will count it - You don't have to be sitting in locos to count them after all! I Don't bother with LUL etc though.

Well, trailer sets ( as in the old REP-TC formations, or the proper Gatwick Expresses ) by definition don't power but they are part of the rake, as is the case with any locomotive hauled coaching stock... so what I do is I'll note (P) behind the number for a powered haulage and (R) for a trailer haulage.

For MU formation, including the DLR, if it's in the rake I'll count it. There are purists around who insist on riding each unit in the formation before they count them; I have no problem with that. If it's how they want to do it, they're entitled to.

Regarding the Underground, yes - the units are in fixed formations; they just don't carry unit numbers. The way I note those is to take a defining carriage as the unit number and use that. Usually this will be the lowest numbered carriage in the unit, but in the case of the 1973 Stock and D Stock I'll use the middle carriage to avoid possible confusion caused when you come across one of the double ended units of that stock.

The Central Line is particularly interesting because the trains are actually formed of four two car units; the middle two being rather unique in that they are complete units without cabs and can therefore only ever be formed in the middle part of a train. So for the Central Line I use the 92xxx carriage as that is common to both types of unit. On rare occasions you can get the cab fitted units formed in the middle of a Central Line rake - I have seen this done with one rake formed of three cab fitted units and one middle unit; I have heard of cases where all four units were cab fitted ones, but never actually seen this for myself.

Yeah, I'm about the same there. If it's in the formation and powering, I'll count all the units/locos. Never used to when I first started, always saw it as cheating back then but my senses finally came to me in the end.

I think I am going to do the same with the DLR stuff from now on, although the Tube will always been a royal pain in the rear for that sort of thing!

EDIT: Forgot to mention my winners from yesterday, which were:

3rd March 2012

2001 (Metrolink)
1021 (Metrolink)
D7076
D9531
47402 (the shame!)
50015

I only ever count the unit I'm actually travelling in, but that's only because it makes it easier to enter the numbers into my database.
