Hi all,

On Sunday morning I received an unusual invitation when I was asked if I wanted to take part in a train evacuation exercise for Iarnród Éireann, along with the Irish Red Cross, Civil Defence and Dublin Fire Brigade. Not having to be asked twice I duly turned up in Connolly Station just after 10:00 and boarded 22016. It then departed around 10:15 and headed towards Heuston Station. Just after entering the Phoenix Park tunnel the train stopped, and the lights went out. At which point we had been told that the train had 'derailed' and we would have to evacuate the train. Following all the procedures and policies we duly climbed down from the train and walked along inside the tunnel to Platform 10 at Heuston. Once the exercise was over the train took us back from Heuston to Connolly.
It was certainly an unusual way to spend a Sunday morning!

Enjoy!

That's something different... thanks for sharing.

Are there any plans to operate services through the tunnel?

I don't believe so... despite no immediate funding it seems that IÉ are more keen on the DART Underground project (new tunnel from Inchicore to North Wall via Christchurch and St.Stephen's Green).
