Evening All

When Haymarket were down to Six 3 car 117's back in 98/99 does anyone know if they had any booked work?

I can remember a 6 car unit working a Waverley to Cowdenbeath train in the PM peak plus a few other Fife Circle trains but were they booked workings as at the time Longsight and Corkerhill 101's were working flat out, Bletchley 117's were still active and even the 3 Colchester bubbles were hard at work on the Sudbury branch but the Haymarket 117's seemed to be used quite spareingly.

The 117s were used on peak hour duties only, mainly on the Fife Circle, but I recall one also used to do the 17.27 Edinburgh-Perth, and presumable worked back from there the following morning.

Thanks for that blackwatch

Do you know if they were allocated set diagrams or just put in for dead Sprinters on a day to day basis?

Reason why I ask is I remember a 3 coach set getting to Fort William in 1999 and I would have thought that this was a fill in!!

There were booked diagrams for the 117s, including the train I mentioned to Perth. Never heard of one reaching Fort Bill, was it on a sleeper substitute or something?

I have the unit as L301 (117301, battered RR livery with Scotrail fleetname) it came into Waverley from Fort William so presumably it went on a rescue mission but it arrived in the early morning. Not quite the "luxury" of a sleeper and as much as I liked 1st gens if one came on a sleeper I think I would be rather miffed.

Couldn't agree with you more! :D Almost as rateable as the time I had a Class 105 'Cravens' Departmental Route Learning set on a York-Harrogate-Leeds vice a failed 141 - they stuck up some bin bags to separate the driver from the passengers!

Fitted with RETB??? Seems a bit odd. Could it of just been going to Dum(p)barton or somewhere, where passengers would of transferred to a 'Super Sprinter'???

I thought apart from 156s the only DMUs to operate service trains on the WHL was a diagram from Crianlarich to Oban and return (in the 1980s IIRC)
