Can anyone tell me if there is a direct link between platforms 11 and 12 at Waverley or will I have to cross tracks at any point? I'm travelling from Newcastle with EC and connecting to a Glasgow service. Open Train Times has the EC service terminating at plat 11 and the Glasgow service starting from plat 12W. Will it be a simple case of stepping off one train and take a few paces forward or will there be a bit of a journey involved? I do have 15 mins in between trains but I want to be sure of where I'm going.

I should add I've checked the map on netwok rail and that doesn't give the full picture.

No track crossing. You just have to walk along the platform, across the internal road and round WH Smiths to the barriers- if you're up the front of the EC service this will be an annoyingly long walk, with you able to see Platform 12 through the fence.

That's what I'm expecting tbh. I'm travelling in stanard class on the EC service and if I'm not mistaken standard class is at the front as first class is at the London end.

Yup. 15 minutes is plenty though, five minutes would be enough, and if it is Queen Street you're headed to (though they don't usually use 12) there's always another one in 15 minutes during the day on weekdays.

If I'm on an advanced ticket I will have to use the Scotrail service specified on the ticket won't I? Unless the EC service is delayed that is.

Is your ticket "EC and Connections"? You're unlikely to have a reservation for the Scotrail leg- which means that any Edinburgh-Glasgow service is fair game

A lot of the Kings Cross services are currently coming into platform 2 - which is a fair walk from pltfm 12, though you should still be able to make it in about 10mins.

My mate booked them and he's not collecting them until we get to Newastle on Saturday morning. Je's sent me a screen shot of the email confirmation from East Coast and it says Via East Coast & other TOC connecting services. It has a time listed for the Scotrail service but no reservation.

According to opentraintimes it's going to be platform 11 the EC train comes in at. I guess this is subject to change?

It can be- but then it might be a different platform to 12 that the Glasgow train leaves from (if it's via Falkirk High, it would more usually be 14 or 15). You'll be able to take any connecting service form Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Plt 12 is used quite a bit by the Queen St via Falkirk services during the middle part of the day (12-14 seem to be the favourites)

If you are at the front of the train and it comes into 11, get off and head to the front of the train, you can round the fence separating the barrier controlled platforms from the rest without having to push past the crowds all heading down platform 11, the crowds around WHSmith's etc, without having to faff on with the barriers.
You'll be on your next platform within minutes with no fuss, I know it's not strictly the done thing, but I've done it many times when getting my connection to Haymarket, shame you can't do it from platform 19 too.

You could possibly find unreserved vacant seats in the coach that has the buffet, or the next coach.
If the train comes into Platform 11, you will be opposite the station concourse.

The train will possibly be a bit quieter after Newcastle anyway.:)
