They dismissed me due to internet usage at work - yet people have got off the hook after doing far worse things......<D

I hate the way they dismiss people for silly things. Waste of farepayer's money.

Maybe you could try writing to your MP. He'll love an excuse to explain the high subsidy.

Crikey, that should only have been a warning at most a please explain! Sounds like they wanted to get rid of the job anyway or something.
Having said that it is probably best to get another job apart from announcer these days anyway with the amount of auto ones they seem to be fitting at the moment.

My job was primarily running the CIS but occasionally manual announcements were needed and it was easier to describe the job as announcers anyway....
My union rep reckoned a letter of suitable advice was more appropiate

I presume that your (former) employers have an 'internet useage' policy in your contract of employment.

Most are quite detailed as to who is permitted to use company IT equipment, and why/when. This came about because of the HUGE amounts of pornography that were being viewed and downloaded by staff at their place of work.

If the phrase 'gross misconduct is mentioned', you are history. Some companies even prosecute staff for 'theft' (of electricity and company time, as they are paying you to work, not browse).

Firm, but fair. If you can PROVE that other members of staff have been treated more leniently (for a SIMILAR offence only), you may have a case for unfair dismissal, but don't hold your breathe!

The only theft is from the farpayer and taxpayer for another announcer as a result of the loss of a perfectly good one.

Wish you the best of luck mate.

I'm afraid you have lost the plot here. You term yourself a communist idealist.....whatever you think that is.

Please be assured, had white van man tried that in a communist state (say China), he would probably have been thrown into jail, if not executed. In such countries, the (communist idealist) state determines not only whom is allowed to use the internet, but WHAT sites they are permitted to view. Freedom of action and therefor choice is easy to abuse when you take it for granted!

Try that on for size 'matey'.
