Hi All,

I am fully aware the Victoria line is ATO however on last night's episode of the tube I saw a train being driven manually by a driver. The driver was below ground and on the approach to Brixton. Does this normally happen, also if drivers want to drive manually, can they?

IIRC they have to drive a certain amount in manual per week to retain knowledge. Happy to be corrected.

That was my understanding too - although AFAIK this is only usually the case off-peak. Even in ATO, the deadman's handle must still be engaged from what I am aware, however.

Victoria line drivers don't refresh themselves inability on thesis line. They do however drive in manual from the depot to Seven Sisters and
Vice versa.

The reason for this is that in coded manual, the speed is restricted to something silly like 15kph.

In The Tube, he closes the doors, pushes ATO start, it cuts to him manually driving up to the 15kph target speed, then cuts to the train in full speed automatic.

Presumably it made the driver look better to be seen driving so try asked the controller of they could draw out in coded manual.

Nope, nothing has to be pushed after ATO Start. The idea behind this is that of the driver suddenly dies the train will drive itself to the next station rather than strand itself in the tunnel.
