Anyone know how of a cheaper way to do a day return Kings Cross to Cambridge than the Anytime Day Return (£31.80) or First Day Return (£50.90)? Must travel on the peak non-stop xx15 or xx45 services so splitting not an option!

No! I took an idea and worked with it...

Clapham Junction - Cambridge (route shown is SWT to Vauxhall, then tube to Kings X, then fast train to Cambridge)

£22.70 Anytime Day Single
£36.40 First Day Single

:)

...unless you wanted a return, in which case I misread the question *hides*

but the OP is wanting a return. I doubt there is any cheaper (although there is a 10p ticket on Advantex)

Do you live at either end of the route, and/or would u make use of a weekly/longer season ticket like a zone 1 and 2 travelcard or a March-Cambridge weekly season?

Which peak for which direction? In the evening out of London, many of the cruisers call at Royston for example.

Asking on behalf of a friend who will be getting either the 08:15 or 08:45 on Thursday, non-stop to Cambridge and returning the same day.

Had a play with Avantix and it's the same price, or more expensive, from other London stations as fares are all set by FCC. I suppose it'll have to be the £31.80 Day Return. I did a First Day Return last time and £20 extra for a 2+2 configuration isn't that much more comfortable.

Almost all the fast trains use 365s which are 2+2 in Standard Class anyway.

G'day

At the moment looking at London Terminals to Cambridge on the EC website for £18.60 return, valid on the 08:33 from Liverpool St, stopping at Tottenham Hale & Audley End only arriving Cambridge at 09:41.

Why is there a :

a) Requirement for non-stop trains
b) Need to travel ex Kings Cross

Just asking. ?

Cheers

I'm guessing the OP won't go for that as I'm guessing they don't want to get up too early...

Which would also explain the requirement for the fast trains.

I think this is a choice between speed and saving.
