I have just noticed "Hamburg", "Koln" (sic) , "P Rabbit Pass", "Rail Europe Inc" and "Echelon UK Ltd" on my Avantix (National Fares Manual 11). Unsurpringly no fares are shown for these stations. Further investigation shows that there are many similar listings of companies or German stations included in Avantix. Does anyone know why they are there?

This is just a total guess, but it could be something to do with regional eurostars that I think were planned years ago.
Someone is boud to know the real reason.

Things like Hamburg are to do with through ticketing AFAIK there has not been any to a lot of these places so the assumption of regional Eurostars would seem likely.

Other destinations are things like tourist attractions that no longer offer an inclusive ticket, and that sort of thing.

How about ANY SWT STATION?

Don't know but the recent Rainbow Day promo tickets had the from station as 'Winchester' and the destination as 'Rainbow Day'.

I thought the promo worked really well but maybe they have decided to tweak it a bit for this year?

Some of the 'any operator X Station', eg 'any SWT station' are/were used for penalty fare warnings. Try such 'stations' as the origin and 'Penalty Warning' as the destination. By the way, do operators still issue penalty warnings in this way, I would be interested in acquiring some for my collection.

If you examine the Avantix database with a hex-editor there are even more "unusual" locations listed in the data. For example -

Oslo
Lisboa Oriente
Istanbul
Vladivostok

Although Commercial Guards cannot issue Penalty Fares, they can issue what is known as a Penalty Fare Warning on a seperate ticket when selling a ticket to a passenger who has boarded at a station where there were ticket issuing facilities (of course subject to the train being a Penalty Fares train at a Penalty Fares station in a Penalty Fares area). This is to inform the passenger that if an Authorised Collector had been checking tickets they could have been issued with a Penalty Fare.

Penalty Fare Warnings are issued by first entering the appropriate four digit NLC code (depending on which TOC it is) as the origin:

J241 - ANY ARRIVA XCSTN (CrossCountry)
J244 - ANY ATW STATION (Arriva Trains Wales)
J249 - ANY C2C STATION (c2c)
J246 - ANY CHILTRN STN (Chiltern)
H443 - ANY DUTCHSTATION (?)
J242 - ANY EMT STATION (East Midlands Trains)
J248 - ANY FCC STATION (First Capital Connect)
J243 - ANY FGW STATION (First Great Western)
J251 - ANY GAT EXP STATION (Gatwick Express)
J235 - ANY GNE STATION (GNER)
J255 - ANY GRAND C STN (Grand Central)
J245 - ANY HULL TR STN (First Hull Trains)
J253 - ANY ISLND L STN (Island Line Trains)
J247 - ANY LDN OVGD STN (London Overground)
J240 - ANY LM STATION (London Midland)
J238 - ANY MERSEYR STN (Merseyrail)
J236 - ANY NTHN E STN (Northern)
J237 - ANY NTHN W STN (Northern)
H164 - ANY ONE STATION (one)
J234 - ANY SCR STATION (First ScotRail?)
J250 - ANY SE STATION (Southeastern)
I444 - ANY SOUTHN TRAIN (Southern)
J252 - ANY SOUTHRN STN (Southern)
H861 - ANY SWT STATION (South West Trains)
I780 - ANY TLINK STN (Thameslink)
J254 - ANY TPE STATION (First Transpennine Express)
J239 - ANY WCML STN (Virgin Trains?)

And then use J666 - PENALTY WARNING as the destination.

So for example if you needed to issue a Penalty Fare Warning on a Merseyrail service (or at a station) you would put J238 as the origin and then J266 as the destination.

And then use J666 - PENALTY WARNING as the destination.

Surely some of these are not applicable, such as those highlighted in red, amongst others, given that they do not have Penalty Fare schemes on their services.

They are there for some reason, although yes you are right that they do not have Penalty Fares on their trains.

Does anyone know where JAZZ BOAT and BBC GOOD FOOD come from? These also appear if you search on the new TVMs Northern have installed.

How does one issue these on Avantix Traveller? I've just tried... inserting origin J246 and destination J666 into a normal fare transaction shows no available fares!

Works if you replace it with J242 (EMT), although comes up with £0.00.

"H443 - ANY DUTCHSTATION (?)"
Stations on the Dutchflyer part of Greater Anglia if you're on a Liv St-Harwich train.
As for XC, it would be on a train operated by XC, so if you were on BNS-Stansted and this happened, it would work there.

J244 is used as the origin for the credit-card payment catering voucher (if you don't have cash to buy something off the trolley, you buy a £3 voucher from the guard to use on the trolley - we treat it as a £3 note) - and J244 is the origin.
