Hello

I currently have a Wolverhampton - Canterbury Stns Advance single route VWC & CONNECTNS for Good Friday 6th April, and now was to stop in Chatham overnight the Thursday 5th April.

If i change my ticket to a Thursday evening (£10 admin fee etc etc), can I break my journey at Chatham and resume it Friday lunchtime, or would I need to buy a seperate Chatham-Canterbury single?

Thanks :)

You may not do either of these things. Advance tickets do not allow travel to continue into the next day in the way off-peak tickets do. Nor may you use an Advance to Canterbury Stns and exit at Chatham.

You can't break your journey on an advance ticket.

You can change your ticket(s) (with an admin fee per ticket) to Off-Peak Single, Off-Peak Return, Anytime Single or Anytime Return (not the day versions) which would allow you to stay overnight along the route.

Would changing my ticket to an off-peak return enable break of journey at Chatham?

Changing to an off peak return would leave me with an advance for the return journey unused, wouldn't it?

Yes, but not overnight. The outbound half of an off-peak ticket is valid only until 0429 on the day after the day of issue (although this depends on whom you ask).

Yes, although I think you can change both your out and back advances to an off-peak return. Or possibly change only the off-peak to a half-price off-peak single (SVH).

I'll be changing it on the LM website as that's where I purchased it, and you have to change each ticket separately there through previous experience.

Think I'll look at changing it to a SVH if it'll let me, so I can break at Chatham, then buy a new ticket for Chatham-Canterbury on Good Friday.

Any idea why the LM website is not offering Standard Advance, only First Advance? I have a choice now whether to pay £33.50 for a First Advance single or £45.80 for an Off Peak Single (+£10 obviously)

I am going to have to dig deeper and look at splitting tickets for a journey to Chatham on Thu 5th April...

You can't get SVHs on WebTIS sites AFAIK.

As for why you can't get standard advances, there may be none left. Particularly likely as it's around Easter and you are booking at quite short notice.

I am going to split as follows instead:

BMO dep 1555 - MYB £15 advance
VIC - CTM not HS1 £16.20 off peak single
total £31.20

and scrap the original ticket for Good Friday.

The Manaual gives the following rules for a break on a SVR
#4 - Break of Journey

Break of journey is allowed on the outward portion of Off-Peak tickets unless otherwise indicated by a restriction shown against the ticket’s validity code and in all cases on the return portion of Off-Peak return tickets.
Off-Peak Singles and the outward portion of Off-Peak Returns are valid for travel on the date shown on the ticket and until 04:29 the following morning. If the journey cannot be completed in this time, the ticket may be used to continue the journey on the following day. Unless otherwise indicated in the relevant restriction code, the same time restrictions from the origin station apply on BOTH days. All travel must be completed by 04:29 in the morning after this second day. Please note that break of journey is not permitted on some journeys, as detailed in the ticket restrictions.
Return portions of Off-Peak Return tickets are valid for travel until 04:29 on the day following the last day of validity (i.e. one calendar month from outward journey). All travel must be completed by this time.
Note: Cross London transfers on Off-Peak Singles will only be accepted by London Underground on the date shown on the ticket and until 04:29 the following day.
