89001 Appeal - YOU DID IT!

The AC Locomotive Group said:
GNER have informed us that our bid for 89001 has been successful!

Tuesday, 21st November, 2006

A big BIG thanks to everyone who helped make this possible - and that's a lot of people! Individual thanks will follow, but bear with us - we have a lot to do now to complete the purchase.

As soon as funds have cleared, final pledges come in, and the sale is concluded we'll post details of the appeal's grand total. If you sent us a contribution by cheque, this will be cashed tomorrow (Wednesday).

Whilst the main purchase appeal is now closed, if you would like to contribute to the future of 89001 you still can - we are going to need a lot more money to get the loco restored, so every penny still counts!

Well done to everyone else who contributed!

TBH, I was under no doubt it would be saved. Even if a scrap merchant had bought it for a higher price tag, I'm sure a deal would have been sought. Lets just hope they dont dump it at Crewe or somwhere now, where vandals ruin it, and then it ends up as razor blades - as it was the ACLG who sadly contributed to "dinosaurs" becoming extinct.... a la 304 021....
Though one can't really knock the ACLG on other aspects of their work, as without them it is (relativley) unlikely that any "roarers" would have survived.

Remember it was Waterman who brought the roarers (not the 84) and they were then given to the ACLG when he lost interest. His next interest in AC electrics was a reappearance on 10/6/05 which shows how much of a joke that day was....

That dino was a great loss....top units
Wish em every bit of luck :thumblef:

The roarers weren't given to the ACLG by Waterman - the ACLG guys had to stump up a load of cash to buy them off him when he decided he wanted rid of them!

if it went there it would be stuffed and mounted and never see the lght of day again, where as if the ACloco group get it it will be moved around and might even return to the mainline??
