Thinking of travelling to Flint at the end of the month. Current fare is £41.20 but I am struggling to find anyway of getting it cheaper by split tickets.

Anyone with 'route knowledge' able to do this for me?

Many thanks

You haven't said what time of day you're travelling, so we don't know whether off-peak day returns will be valid. If they are splitting at Stockport will give you £16.20 for Flint-Stockport and £15.90 for Stockport-Sheffield to give a total fare of £32.10.

No advances seem to be available for this month.

G'day

If it is a day return then the following may be of use :

Sheffield-Grindleford £4.60 Anytime Day Return
Grindleford-Nantwich £10.00 GM Wayfarer (Depart Grindleford after 09:30)
Nantwich-Flint £14.40 Anytime Day Return

Total £29.00

Cheers

@ OP: Do remember that for such a plan to be valid your train must call at the split locations. Otherwise, it is certainly a feasible option (if the Ranger is valid that far, which I doubt).

Still sheep territory isn't it? :p (jk)

Are you sure a GM Wayfarer is valid to Nantwich ? Last time I looked it was only valid as far as Holmes Chapel. [ And £10.00 is cheaper than Crewe - Manchester offpeak return so I think it unlikely ]

Please read before asking for fares advice
Your origin and destination (and any via points if applicable)
The date or day you are travelling, and whether you are making a single or return journey
The time you wish to travel (eg: exact time, morning/afternoon/evening, peak/off-peak, time not important, etc.) and whether you require flexibility or are happy to be booked on a specific train
Whether you hold a Railcard or some other discount entitlement
Whether you are willing to accept a longer journey time in return for cheaper fares (not always applicable)
I do have something in mind for a CDR, but have no idea if that would be relevant.

No you're right it isn't. There also wouldn't be any point in going beyond Crewe to Nantwich or buying a Nantwich-Flint ticket over a Crewe-Flint ticket.

G'day

I'm an idiot, I meant Northwich, not Nantwich.

.........and it's £1.40 less

Sheffield-Grindleford £4.60 Anytime Day Return
Grindleford-Northwich £10.00 GM Wayfarer (Depart Grindleford after 09:30)
Northwich-Flint £13.00 Anytime Day Return

Total £27.60

Although the OP states he is travelling after 09:30, there is a Hope Valley stopper at 09:14 from Sheffield that stops at Grindleford at the rather annoying time of 09:29.
A return from Sheffield to Hathersage (dep 09:32) is only 40p more
