Two questions:

Can a Zones 1-9 Off Peak Day paper Travelcard be purchased with a Railcard discount from a LU ticket office?

And can it be used in conjunction with a Reading - Boundary Zone 6 ticket?

I want to bash the Met later this week, plus other travel in London and this combination of tickets if available would be cheapest for my needs.

Definitely can be used in conjunction with Reading to Boundary Zone 6. Not 100% sure if an LUL office will issue them, but it's likely.

Aha. Forum search throws up the fact that I can buy a Zones 1-9 Travelcard with Railcard discount online via Trainline powered sites. Problem solved!

I was under the impression you could only buy a 1-9 travelcard from an LU ticket office! The National Rail machines don't list them, although I've never tried to buy one from an NR ticket office to be fair.

To buy online, select a Zone 9 station as origin (eg Amersham) and a National Rail station in Zone 1 (eg Paddington) as destination. Ensure you're asking for 'Return' fares with out and return on the same day. Et voila, a Travelcard routed AAA LDN 7-9. AAA=Also Available At.

Only appears to work on thetrainline powered websites (FGW, SWT, ATW etc)

You can buy them on WebTIS sites as well. Select a zone 7-9 station like Bushey and London All-zones travelcard. Although the text on the mixing deck says zones 1-6, the price is the zones 1-9 one and the order confirmation screen includes "valid via: also valid from LDN ZONE 7-9".

That's not confusing at all to the man on the street...

I've had a 1-9 ticket with railcard discount from an LU ticket office in the past. No reason to think this has changed. Though of course if your journey starts in Reading you'll have to already have your travelcard to buy the extension.

Yes, LU ticket offices should be able to sell railcard-discounted travelcards, although this fact is not widely publicised.

The travelcards will not have the specific railcard type printed on them, such as Y-P or SNR, but will have DISC printed instead.

If I remember when I worked on LUL the Discounted T/C was only available for zones 1-6 but I may be wrong.

I think you are thinking about smaller ones. There are four one-day travelcards available now: 1-2, 1-4, 1-6 and 1-9. There is no discount available on the 1-2 and 1-4 ones (the discounted 1-6 is still cheaper than a full 1-2). The exception is Oyster caps where the off-peak cap is discounted in all four cases if a railcard had been loaded onto the Oyster.

Five, there is also 1-9+Watford Jn, which is also railcard discountable and I believe can only be purchased for LT (the version purchased from BR outlets for the same price is effectively an outboundary 1-9 Travelcard).

Am I right you mean all these are available discounted fo holders of various railcards. eg Network.Disabled.Forces etc.

The discount arrangement for paper travelcards is the same as for National Rail in general, so discount is available for holders of all railcards, provided that the travelcard covers at least Zones 1-6.

Discount for Oyster daily caps has certain exclusions, such as the Network Railcard.

OK, but that is a bit of a special case. If you're going to start including out boundary travelcards then obviously there are thousands. There are only two travelcards that cannot be discounted with a railcard and they are the zone 1-2 and zone 1-4 versions.

Yes, but there is a minimum fare of £5.60, so in effect zones 1-2 or 1-4 cost the same as 1-6.

Discounted inboundary Travelcards are not available to holders of Two Together Railcards.

Hang on, I thought Watford Jn was essentially a 10th zone with regard tickets purchased at LT stations, therefore making it different to a normal out boundary Travelcard.
