Having just bought RAIL magazine to read Peter's Sleeper article, I noticed a report on page 29 that says West Coast's 47 826 hauled its first passenger train in two years on 3rd March (Statesman Rail to Fort William), its last passenger working being on 10/4/10 with a Sheffield to Glasgow charter. It says the loco has been out of use with bogie problems at Carnforth since then.

However my photograph below, taken near Glenfinnan on 7/5/11 of an SRPS charter, would seem to be at odds with this report.

It looks like Rail is incorrect, so I suggest you contact Richard Clinnick who is the Features Editor by e-mailing at [email protected].

Yes 47760 worked SRPS Tour to Fort Wiliam, 47826 to Mallaig 760 back to Fort William then 826 worked train back down WHL. 760 remained at Fort William .

Rail wrong again. I had 47826 on 4/6 last year on a Compass Tour Hereford-Durham. Expect it worked after that aswell.

I wouldn't call a magazine which gets some information wrong a liar

I do read both Rail and Modern Railways, plus other maagazines and the people writing them are only human with at times only being as good as the people providing them the details either as a spotter or from the companies that own/operatod the Loco itself.

Other Rail Magazines, I bet if you looked closely have made similar gaffs with the details been given to them.

Rail does seem to make an awful lot of errors though. It's seems to be the 'Tabloid' of the transport magazines!

I must admit considering the cost of it keeps going up it is a bit annoying that it doesn't even appear to have been proof-read in some issues.. Typos and whatnot.

'Rail' for 20 years it was the Best magazine out there, then it all went wrong somewhere :roll: Haven't read it for years (IMO It turned into a Rail workers 'journal' and went largely away from the 'Enthusiast' side of things...)

No, what you are describing there is a stenographer or typist. A journalist should do more than just reproduce what someone off the street has told them.

Bigyinn = Troll

You know NOTHING about me, yet you claim Im a troll? :roll: Grow up!

Rail Magazine was well known in the 90's as Liar, from what I can see its still justified.
How many magazines do you know of that have published their cover with a back to front picture (a pair of 26's on a service train to Inverness, which I was on!)? I used to buy it religiously and have the first 500+ copies before I stopped buying it. Its trying to be Modern Railways and failiing miserably at it.

I've just read in the latest issue that 325s were designed to be converted into passenger units if needed.. Is this actually true? :/

Give them to Virgin and they can run along with Pendolinos. Then there's no need to even put windows in. :D
