I know that this makes restoration even harder, but will it ever be restored, or is it only going to be scrapped now?

When a rail vehicle is completely gutted by fire, 9 times out of 10 it is cut. If the frame work survives, maybe theres a chance it could be restored but only if the sources of spares can be found. And of course, the £ signs are HEAVILY involved also ;)

But don't take my word for it as I'm no expert.

Also depends on what the insurance company say....

There was a spokesperson for the MRC on BBC Radio Nottingham the day after it happened saying that the coach is well beyond any hope of restoration now and will be scrapped.

If the coach had that much historical value why was it in the open in the first place?

Undercover storage is a precious commodity, best used to store rolling stock thats already been restored or in original condition - unrestored wooden carriage bodies which have probably been outside for many decades usually stay that way until work starts. When there's little more than a frame and exterior pannelling that isnt usually a big problem...
