Hi, I am looking to use a Sainsbury's offer £19 anywhere In scotland from Glasgow q st ([stn]GLQ[/stn]) to Oban return on Saturday 31/3 departing 1037 from [stn]GLQ[/stn].

I would like to book seats but online booking says no seats avail outbound but ok return. However, if I look at a normal single [stn]GLQ[/stn] to Oban I can book seats on that train.

Phoned Scotrail who explained very nicely that each class of ticket has a specific number of seats avail for reservation and they must be used up for the cheap offers. Ok, fair enough. March madness (for another £6) would have been an ok price but that ticket category seems to b in the same boat - no outbound seats.

I was wondering tho..... Do they tend to release further seats before departure?

Also, if I booked online and collected my tickets, would a ticket office have more flexibility to reserve seats for me face to face?

This is just a simple late planned day trip to Oban for lunch assuming the weather's nice but full price is a lot to pay for a seat reservation.

Many thanks in advance.

Paul

I think it is unlikely that further seats will be released before departure.

It seems that you can actually buy your tickets from a Scotrail ticket office, so you could try doing that and see if you get reservations for both legs, but I don't think you'll be able to get any reservations if booking on the day.

If you don't manage to get reservations by other means, as the train starts at Glasgow Queen Street, perhaps if you get to the station 15-20 mins before the train is due to leave you could have first pick at one of the unreserved seats?

Thanks for the fast reply. I'll take that advice. Tomorrow the weather forecast for saturday will be clearer so I'll maybe pitch up at a ticket office and see how I get on. I'm getting the train tomorrow anyway

ScotRail told you a load of nonsense. Seat reservations are available to all ticket holders, if there were no seats to book on the outbound, it's because there were none left!
