On the 12.16 Chiltern service to High Wycombe, just went over the NLL and I saw a LOROL 172 with it's door lights on at Brondesbury, is it running NLL services today or is it something else ?

Thanks

Could possible especially if a class 378 has failed its not the 1st time a class 172 has been used on the North London line services in fact silverlink even used a class 150 a few times.

Even better , Silverlink one Xmas Eve used a 2 car class 117 on the Stratford to Camden Road am peak shuttles , due to 313 shortage.

Shame we won't see a 33+4TC set on short hire on the GOBLIN again, now THAT would be worth going for if it happened again!

It wasn't unusual to see 150s substituting 313s on the NLL in Silverlink Metro era, I think I even remember travelling on a 150 on the WLL once. Apparently a 150 even traveled all the way to North Woolwich by mistake on one occasion - through the Connaught Tunnel - where they were banned!

Also, unrelated to the time of day you saw it but remember that there a booked 172 working on the NLL: 0759 SSuX Woodgrange Park - Hampstead Heath. The service is to provide additional capacity and relieve congestion at Gospel Oak in the morning peak. It calls at all stations to Upper Holloway then instead of terminating in the bay platform at Gospel Oak - it bypasses the station on the through lines and travels directly to Hampstead Heath.

1st time I have heard of this got any pictures?

It lasted for less than a week - an act of almost desperation due to the severe lack of working class 117 units , and late arrival of the 150/1 sets from sister TOC Central in 1999.

Three days, or even just two and a half wasn't it, week of the late August BH? 33103 and a 3-TC, one of the most riotous things I've ever had.

I had it on 25/08/99. 87031 M.Keynes-Euston in the morning to boot :D
Phot is 4th one here http://www.leightonlogs.org/photquiz10.htm, I've got one of it at Blackhorse Rd somewhere.

I've heard the reason for a 172 being used was because a 378 had been taken out of service following door problems - one was certainly causing delays on the 17th, since I was actually waiting for a train that was directly behind it. I don't know if the rumours of it being taken out of service are actually true, which unit it was or what exactly the problems were.
