hi there;

This post is now into the interview stages; which i have an interview on the 11th April.

However; my question is why on earth is it a day long process! 09:00 - 16:00 (providing you make it passed the morning part anyway!) & what is involved, can anyone shed any light on this?

cheers

Morning is a welcome event, a relaxed group exercise and a few other small tasks.

If you're successful, you stay for (a very nice) lunch, and then in the afternoon, there are interviews and the opportunity to ask some of the psr coaches and supervisors questions about the job.

All in all a fairly relaxed affair, but the idea is to stand out, but clearly display working as a team. Suit and tie, shiny shoes and a very smart appearance is a sensible move.

Hi Woolsty,

I had the letter yesterday, but it was dated 27th March. It is possible that if you've not heard as yet, then you might be in a pool to invite for interview at a later date. they've done that with drivers posts. As i believe most would have heard by now if they had failed. (i stand to be corrected on this)

No news is good news! :D

I dread looking in the email inbox, apparently if you are not selected you get an email, letter in the post for good news, fingers crossed then.
thanks for the reply.

When I had mine there was an intro where you would find out other candidates names and interests. After that the group is divided into two teams and you will carry out a presentation to the management and other Metrolink colleagues.

After lunch they will take you into a room and split the group up. Once confirmed your through to the next round you then go for interviews with your future line managers.

Also you will get your uniformed measured and ordered and will be required to carry out a short fares and ticketing quiz.

Once the day is over it can take upto 1 month for a letter if you are successful for the role. I wouldn't hold your breath it could maybe take 2-3 months.

I had my assessment last year and only have got round to my CRB check this month.

I'm still undecided and given then length of time I may not bother... we shall see....

Had the driver assesment day today. Long and draining day but very enjoyable.
Day consists of two tests at the start of the day, one of which is the dials test. Then there is a concentration test and basic maths test. if you pass those a nice lunch is prepared.
Then its interview, announcement test and drive tram observation!

Tiring and long day but I enjoyed every minute!!

Don't know if you have heard anything yet, but when I phoned to say I was attending the interview she said they were still arranging assessment days for both driver and PSR roles. So there is time yet....

Which depot.... Cheetham Hill or Old Trafford?

I go to Old Trafford on the 20th, any info would be appreciated.
How many attend each day, what sort of questions are asked if you make interview stage.

All assessments are at Old Trafford, and all vacancies will be for jobs at Old Trafford Depot, as Queens Road Depot is full. 3 assessment days this week, 1 day the week after.

The depot itself becomes fully crew-operational at the end of May.

Good luck to all those going. I think all the clues needed to help you pass have already been mentioned in this thread. Even if you're unsuccessful, you'll still have an entertaining day :)

The attendance varies... There were meant to be 13 in my group but 9 turned up... I know 2 were late and turned away and the rest never showed up.

Adding to my original post on the thread there is a presentation (group work). You cant really prepare for this as you don't know what subject you will have to present.

After lunch they will let everyone know who has passed the presentation assignment.

Interview questions are standard...
You need to take the STAR approach for each competency based questions based on

-Team work
-Customer service skills
-Handling unexpected events/incidents

There were two more but can't think off the top of my head

I hope this helps....

Hello all,

Been reading this forum for quite a while now and found plenty of interesting vacancies and advice so many thanks first of all to everyone for that.

I'm also at the psr assessment day this Wednesday 11th - think I'm just about ready... My first interview in the rail / light rail industry but I feel I am prepared as much as I can be.

Hope to see those of you going on Wednesday there! My first challenge as an out of towner is to find the depot, but I guess if i cant do that, then I havent got a chance of being a psr haha.

Regards,
Scudz (David)

Well, I have not long returned from the PSR assessment day. I made it through the whole day. It was a great day staffed by some really nice & top quality people!! I felt that they made the groups feel at ease, with many staff 'on-hand' to answer any questions that were posed.

Most of us made it through to interviews I think 3 went at lunch; 1 left early in the morning. - I feel sorry for those who did the early walk of shame.

We should know within a couple of weeks if we've got the call for medical & CRB form filling.

If you were there today, I hope I said hello to you!

cheers :p

Day went very well, 14 attended, 10 went through for interview. Same set up in the morning , same questions for the group exercise. Nothing given away in relation to start dates or number of vacancies. They did say however that they will inform candidates by end of next week if successful. Then its the CRB and medical. I enjoyed the day, staff very friendly. I felt quite positive but you can never quite tell with interviews.

Well done Matt! Yeah, everyone gets a CRB, they now do the check prior to starting, as a few newbies who failed the check had to leave some time ago. Think you'll enjoy it, every day is different.

Bad luck to those who didn't make it, but keep trying... theres more jobs appearing towards the end of the year if I've heard correctly.

I've had my letter from metrolink, as to make an appointment to go in and fill out the CRB form. Hopefully this will be just a formality; as ive had an enhanced CRB for the last 15 years.

Well done Matt, they promised that everyone would know by the end of this week. They stated that one of the lines will open very soon but the date as still to be announced.
All the best for the future.

Congratulations Woolsty,

When I went in on Tuesday for my CRB form filling in with Wes, he said that after our day only a few made it through to the invite to CRB.

He said to us, that the possible starting time would be around August, after the Oldham line has opened for business.

I go down next Tuesday to complete the form, the East Mcr Line to Droylsden which was due to open in Spring as been delayed. Lines complete but the snagging list wont be completed until Sept !!
