Im visiting Shrewsbury tomorrow to see some of the Arriva Trains Wales units, please can anyone answer the following questions:

1) Is the Shrewsbury to Crewe service booked for a class 153 ?

2) Is the 1405 Shrewsbury - Swansea via HOW line booked for a class 153 ?

3) Are there any class 150 diagrams out of Shrewsbury ?

4) What unit is diagrammed on the Crewe - Chester shuttle ?

Cheers in advance.

1. It was last time I was there

2. I believe most are booked 153

3. Pass

4. I have usually seen a 153 on it though I think I have also seen a 150 before as well.

To be honest, the main order of the day at Shrewsbury will probably be ATW 153, 158 (of both liveries...also a bit of joining and detaching done there) and 175's
You are also likely to see LM 170's, possibly with attached 153 in the bays

3) Whenever I've seen the Shresbury-Crewes, they have been a 150

The 1405 Shrewsbury to Swansea is usually a 153, but can be a 150, particularly during school holiday periods.

Crewe-Shrewsbury I've seen as both 150 and 153 recently, though the former is more common. Crewe-Chester is almost always 158 when I see it, though it can also be a 150.

When I've been at Crewe the Chester - Crewe was a 150 and the Shrewsbury was a 153

I've noticed that recently, London Midland have started attaching 153s to the 170s for the Shrewsbury to Birmingham New Street services. In the past, it was just a two car 170. Anyone know why the addition of a 153 has started to become the norm? I also saw two 170s on a Shrewsbury to Birmingham New Street service.

They have also recently reappeared on the Hereford line. They've probably been taken from the Chase Line I would have thought.

1 - it was 153 last Thursday but I've seen 150's and 158's on it.
2 - 1805 HoW was 153 last Thursday though as othr posters have said they do bring in 150's and doubled up 153's in summer.
3 - Not usually unless on above 2 runs however as reported many times elsewhere you can find them doing 2 hrly Holyhead to Cardiffs due to rolling stock shortages almost every week.
4 -I've seen 150's and 158's on it.

There seems to be more freight using Marches at moment both Freightliner and EWS including Class 70's. Both tracks on Abbey Curve are quite shiny at moment.

Have the Chase line stopped using 153+170 combinations? (They often did, but intermittently; often they have a lone 170). Any reason for this change?

I base it on the fact that since December, some diagrams have been shortened from 3 to 2 coaches.

(1) - 153 on salop Crewe locals except first out and back from Salop in morning which is 158. Often 150 according to availabity on the day.
(2) - All HOW booked 153s but 150s often appear, especially when events being held or availabity.
(3) - 0610 Shrewsbury to Wreaxham , 2308 Shrewsbury to Cardiff, 2047 Wrexham to Shrewsbury and 2166 Cardiff to Crewe booked 150s.
(4) - 158(SX) 150 (so). Mixture Suns.

All coverage on the day depends on availabity with 150s often deputising for other classes.

Sometimes a 150 will appear between Shrewsbury and Birmingham international attached to a 158

I've ridden a Virgin 221 on the Crewe-Chester before.

I've ridden on a Pendo on there too :P

The last train on the all shacks Crewe - Salop the other week was the train off Manchester and was a 2 car 175, but I don't think they are on there very often

Yes, that it is correct although not of course part of the shuttle. This is due to the train not going through to Cardiff.

A 2-car 175 operates the Crewe to Chester shuttle now and then. Seems a great waste of rolling stock as it is always very quiet, but it certainly makes for a pleasant 20 minute journey!

They were briefly all 175s before Cardiff "stole" them.
Actually at least one early Chester-Crewe service is still a 175 because it then picks up a Marches diagram by running from Crewe to Manchester to form the 0730 back to Carmarthen.

It means it is booked to be a 158 Mon - Fri, a 150 on Sats, and anything can turn up on a Sunday!
There is no dedicated Diagram on Sundays, mostly being intermingled with Crewe/Holyheads

It would seem to be a waste but it is better to use what is available than cancel. There use to be a saying " Diagrams are made to be broken!

I presume this diagram exists to change the Class 150's used on the Wrexham - Bidston line ?
