There have been threads about the demise of the Soccer Special on the national network but none about the ones LU used to run.
I do not mean the all stations 'extras' they put on for Wembley, Stamford Bridge etc but the point to point non-stop specials.
Any idea when the last ones run - or indeed if any still do run ?
I suppose it requires two clubs on the same lines or lines with the same stock and clubs in the same division (or a cup game) for them to be a viable proposition.

I remember taking a c stock from Hammersmith to New Cross one evening when Millwall were playing QPR.
Picked the Millwall fans up at Goldhawk Rd and dropped them off at Surrey Docks (as it was then) and New Cross Gate. There wasn't much glass left in the windows as I recall!

I can also remember running specials from Moogate to Wembley Park with C stock trains picking up fans at Kings Cross if a team from up North was at Wembley. Run into Neasden depot
then out into P6 at Wembley for the return traffic at full time.

Strangely enough most of the ones I recall involved taking Millwall supporters from New Cross non-stop to avoid them being mixied with the general public. New cross-Watford springs to mind. Though most were run by Fluffy Link crews they often PNR'd themselves off it somewhere due to an inherent aversion to work that most of the Fluffy crews seemed afflicted with, leaving a poor unsuspecting spare with the task of taking them on to their final destination.

More recently, although we have hot spares, there haven't seemed to be planned special service trains - planned by LU. I have however seen, several times, the BTP turn up and claim a train! Chuck everyone off, take it to the next station, get the footie fans on it, and demand it runs non-stop to where they want!

When Millwall played Arsenal in 1989 there was at least 1 train from New Cross direct to Kings Cross after the game.

I have a photo of a 1973 Stock train at Ealing Broadway that picked up footie supporters off a train from the west and took them directly to Arsenal. Non-stop.
