Yes (except on seasons). You'd be expected to show the railcard on demand although I'm yet to encounter anyone who actually has

Yes that is what I meant,
Spoke to ATW customer services who confirmed that and they are going to send me a letter confirming that Plusbus Day Tickets with railcard discount is valid and the difference between the fares

Bold: I don't get what you mean?
Plusbus day tickets are definitely worth it though.

I would hazard a guess that the OP was charged a full-price PlusBus and refused a discount on the spot. He then wrote in and now ATW are giving him a refund of the difference.

Again, I can second that YP discounts are applicable to plusbus fares. Once or twice, when I've known in advance that I'll be travelling by bus in Cardiff, I've bought the cheapest possible train fare and a plusbus addon. With the YP railcard, it works out cheaper than buying a day bus ticket (which has no YP discount).

Would help a great deal if the OP could post the full story/question and not expect us to fill in the gaps!

To clarify. ATW are going to refund me the difference between the undiscounted plusbus ticket that I was sold today, as the guard refused to sell me the railcard discounted version.

Right. Looking at the Plusbus Q and As:

Plusbus said:
3. Can I buy PLUSBUS on the train from a conductor?

Train companies prefer customers to buy their tickets before getting on a train (where this is possible), from a ticket office, a self-service ticket vending machine or in advance by 'phone or online. If you are unable to buy your ticket before boarding the train, then you can buy your train ticket and your PLUSBUS ticket from the Conductor or Train Manager onboard (but some Railcard discounts may not be available).

Which stations were you travelling between?

I've had similar before at Wigan NW with Plusbus and 16-25 railcard. Been told that I couldn't be sold the tickets as it was before 10am and railcards were not valid.
There is somewhere on the PlusBus site, a pdf file that shows all the restrictions (if any) for the various railcards. Maybe you could keep a print out of it for future reference? I do now as a 'just in case'

From The Manual:

16-25 Railcard & HM Forces Railcard holders get one-third off the adult PLUSBUS day ticket price upon presentation of their valid Railcard at all times.

The £12 minimum fare restriction does not apply.

From the plus bus site here is the pdf with all the restrictions on it.

Which seems to be the same as in the manual above.
