Hi all,

At last, I've got on with this thread. Been back 6 days! Anyway, after my most successful trip to the Republic of Ireland (seriously, how have I not been on a proper bash there before, it's great!), I'm in need of some assistance in getting my mileage updated. If anyone here has got the gen, I'd love to hear from you. I recall someone saying they'd assist on the Mileage Competition thread, but to be honest I can't remember who that was! The gen I'm in need of then:

LUAS:

Connolly to Heuston
Busaras to Heuston
Abbey Street to Heuston

(My best estimate is a shade over 2 miles for Connolly to Heuston, according to the Baker)

DART:

Dublin Connolly to Sandymount
Dublin Connolly to Howth

The rest:

Dublin Heuston to Portarlington
Portarlington to Portaloise
Portarlington to Westport
Portlaoise to Limerick (not via Junction)
Limerick to Limerick Junction
Limerick Junction to Dublin Heuston
Limerick Junction to Mallow
Mallow to Tralee
Mallow to Cork
Cork to Cobh
Limerick Junction to Waterford
Waterford to Dublin Heuston
Dublin Connolly to Drumcondra
Drumcondra to Navan Road Parkway (station just before MP 3.75)
Navan Road Parkway to Maynooth
Navan Road Parkway to Ashtown
Ashtown to Broombridge
Broombridge to Docklands
Maynooth to Sligo

I *think* that's it. Many thanks in advance for any help. Hopefully one day a new updated version of the Irish Quail will be released!

Nice one, shall be adding the DART ones to my moves in RM shortly, just got the long list of them to go through yet after I make notes on class numbers for the Rotems and 29000s.

Thanks for the uber swift reply!

Drumcondra to Navan Road Parkway (station just before MP 3.75) Don't know. Mileposts measured from former Dublin Broadstone, terminus of the MGWR.
Navan Road Parkway to Maynooth Maynooth is 14 mi 72 ch from Broadstone, so if Navan Rd Pkway is 3 mi 60 ch from there, it must be 11 mi 12 ch from Maynooth.

Many thanks 4SRKT, shall return to this thread in a while once I've got the moves added to RM.

Is everyone having a quiet Easter then? Thought I'd not get a reply until tomorrow at least, so a pleasant surprise!

Just having a quick look again, I notice both replies have vastly different figures for Connolly to Howth. As will be mention in the trip report, I noted a MP of 4.75 at Howth Junction and a 3.25 one just west of Howth itself so the higher number sounds about right.

Also worth noting that I should have clarified the Portaloise to Limerick bit is via Thurles and then avoiding Limerick Junction, kinda forgot about the Ballybrophy to Limerick via Nenagh option

Cheers muchly, I suspect that book would be incredibly hard to come by these days. Might have to call upon its knowledge again one day!

Amazon Marketplace? Worth a try; it's a very useful and interesting book.

Good idea, once I've processed this long list of moves then I'll have a look.

Might try contacting IE and see if they'd be willing to provide any mileage gen for the Docklands and M3 Parkway branches. Dunno how enthusiast friendly they are though.

Sorry gang, just gone through my notebook and forgot I did a Connolly to Grand Canal Dock and back leap on the Sunday to scoop the shack and kill some time before the Sligo train. I seriously doubt the mileage will be all that different to that to Sandymount, it sure ain't far between the two from what I recall.

Any gen at all gang? Much appreciated.

Argh, you'd think I would go through my notebook first! Also need Connolly to Pearse!

Using Google Maps measuring tool will provide accurate distance info for lines unavailable elsewhere. I have found it to be very accurate having tested it with known distances from books

Different publications vary slightly with Irish station distances and a lot have changed in recent years with platform extensions.

The different platforms at Heuston and Connolly affect the distance differently. I take this into account in my mileages though I apprecate not everyone does (for example Heuston platform 1 14 chains less)

The buffers at Heuston are now 0.02 decimal or 0m1.5ch having been moved when the station was rebuilt in 2003

The first edition of T&T contained a few errors concerning distances which were corrected in the subsequent ones.

If anyone would like an xls of LUAS distances (measured by GPS) send me a PM

TBH I'm a 'nearest quarter mile' man and this is my first foray into the world of miles and chains!

xls file attached to this message. I did not initially realise it was possible to attach an xls to a post. Distances compiled using GPS, mostly while travelling but some on the ground

Just had a quick look through that, looks nicely detailed and must have taken a fair bit of work to put together. Whilst I remember, I had a look on Wikipedia for Luas fleet details, and I've got this:

3001 - 3026
4001 - 4014
5001 - 5026

Would that be correct?

Ah, I'll have another look...

Nice, like the details of traction motors and so forth, a good idea. Bit off-topic, but 3026 is currently in Magnum Infinity livery which looks pretty good.
