Hi all,

As most of you should be aware, this year's price increases saw the 14 day 1st Class ALR rise above the £1000 mark.

Most of you will also be aware that last year saw the introduction of weekday time restrictions on all four ALR types, specifically on VT, EC and EMT services before 1000 on the southern extremities of their networks. The same time restriction was also introduced for XC services at BHM (though how enforceable that is is highly debatable).

Anyway, a couple of questions:
1) I am sure I read somewhere that plans for similar restrictions on FGW inter-city trains out of Paddington and Reading were planned but never included, is there any truth in this?
2) Weren't we all told that the restrictions were in lieu of rises over the next few years, or was that just for 2011 specifically?

Cheers

The promise was no increase in 2011 but it would be "reviewed" in January 2012 - where "reviewed" obviously means "raised along with most other fares".

Restrictions are made to be circumvented :p. I did a FC ALR at the public rate not so long ago and travelled on "barred" trains having sufficiently covered my a*se, though I did find it difficult to eat two EC breakfasts in one morning. Same went for when I left Euston on the 06:27 to Crewe before picking up the WAG Express.
