I hold a 1 month Season Ticket for Manchester Stations to Huddersfield.

Its the £210.90 pcm one (i.e. not earlybird or restricted to Routes Via Hebden Bridge).

As this is the "any valid route" option I was looking to see which routes are valid i.e. could I legitimately hop on for a stop to Dewsbury or nip to Halifax for work as these stations have trains that connect to Hebden Bridge and I have the non restricted ticket?

I have looked at the National Routeing Guide whcih just showed GM as the valid routes so didn't help me much.

Any pointers or help is appreciated.

The any permitted ticket is valid by any route for which a cheaper route specific fare applies. In this case 'Rte Any Permitted' is more expensive than 'Rte Hebden Bridge' and is therefore valid via Hebden Bridge. NRES is happy for a 'Rte Hebden Bridge' ticket to be valid via Halifax.

Dewsbury is in the opposite direction, so I can't see that being valid that way, but maybe if you have a play around with NRES.....

I agree with HHF.

Dewsbury is the opposite direction and is not on the way towards Hebden Bridge!

Halifax is fine, again for the reasons given by HHF. ATOC recently clarified what we'd always suspected, that the permitted routes via Hebden Bridge will be the permitted routes from origin to Hebden Bridge plus Hebden Bridge to destination.

Halifax is therefore on a permitted route with your ticket.

Your season costs a lot more than a Season from Halifax or Hebden Bridge, so this of course makes sense. However if you wish to travel to/from Dewsbury on your Season, then the cost will increase to £243.10pcm.

Agreed.

Of course, the Rte Hebden Bridge fare really shouldn't exist. It is a completely ludicrous route that no one in their right mind would take, especially for the minimal cost saving. It is of course only there as a fares grab from Northern - they anticipate (quite correctly) that many people buy it by mistake from SSTMs when they had no intention of going that way at all. Hence Northern gets all the money but no additional passengers. The fact that on the Shere type SSTMs at HUD and MAN it is far from clear what the routeing is on the ticket, and that the sales screen confuses people by saying "available fares from Manchester Piccadilly to Huddersfield" right above the Rte Hebden Bridge fares is also far from helpful.

Thanks for all the feedback, its all very helpful and i'm pleased to have found you.

IRO the Dewsbury question it was because I was there for a meeting and noticed a Hebden Bridge service called there and wondered if Huddersfield to Dewsbury would be considered a connection to a Hebden Brisge service or Vice Versa although i understand and take the point that its in the wrong direction an d the cost of Dewsbury to Manchester is higher.
