There's another fatality on the ECML. I am on the 0829 York - London which was re-formed from the 0615 Newcastle - London, which departed York 20 minutes late, which isn't bad really considering the circumstances and the train only arrived into York from London at 0830. (You'll still get the usual moaners and people who try to enforce invisible non-existent seat reservations no doubt)

Currently trains from the North are terminating at Darlington (they're probably terminating some at Newcastle as I am not sure Darlington will be able to cope!) and from the South terminating at York.

It is getting to a fairly tedious almost daily occurrence at the moment. Yesterday's was just off the ECML and was at Micklefield in the evening, which caused suitable chaos to TPE and Northern services for a few hours.

I notice at the moment Virgin are not accepting london - Scotland tickets, I wonder if that is because of the problems at Glasgow.

One would assume so. Bit tricky for them to help out when their own services are collosally disrupted too.

WCML also stuffed between Crewe and Liverpool - wires down on all lines somewhere between the two.

LM control were convinced their trains weren't affected, the Guard on our train kept reassuring passengers that the trains were definitely running through while I was advising passengers in my coach that they definitely weren't. A quick show of Staff LDB convinced him otherwise and suddenly we were all getting detrained at Crewe. Marvellous.

Oh and it turns out LM only tickets aren't valid on rail replacement coach services. More updates on this one as I go...

Oh and signalling problems in the Tile Hill area means only 1tph from LM is making it to New St, VT running -30 on most Brum services at the moment. Signalling issues at Glasgow and lineside equipment failure at Macclesfield means that pretty much every WCML service is delayed.

Essentially if you wanted to travel north of Rugby today, have fun and expect to get there sometime next week.

Any idea why NRE is reporting it as "Safety checks being made on the line" ?

Having to check the overhead lines before the line can be reopened - which has just been reopened by the way. First through are 1F40 (1101 BHM-LIV) and 1L95 (1234 LIV-BHM). Both calling additionally at Winsford.

Yes, track defects at New Street with temp blocks being taken in order to make repairs.

Any more info on the wires down in the Liverpool area?

My Preston-Euston train was fine through Acton Bridge / Winsford this morning, no signs of trouble, and that's during the time disruption was reported.

Northern Echo is reporting that a body was found at a former station south of Northallerton - may be the case that someone has been hit but the driver hasn't noticed, then the next train through has seen the person.

Signalling problems into the Cross now as well. Should have left Peterborough about 23 mins ago and still sat here with no ETD

GC service also stopped here but FCC is out in front of our EC...blooming fantastic!

When I got to Crewe we were allowed through. It looked like a 350/2 had brought them down and had been shunted clear by a DBS 66. Whole journey today was rather sardine like and overall very unpleasant. Staff come into their own during disruption and I was "lucky" enough to sample excellent and atrocious service.

You can use your ticket on GA and LU, should you still be stuck at KGX. Unfortunately the live departure boards are proving to be very little use.

There is no currently predicted time when services will get back to normal. Delays are around 20-40 minutes at present.

On the move 31 mins later! Can't say I'm overly impressed that the Grand Central eventually went out ahead of us, followed by another East Coast HST!

Fast linespeeds, and you have a good view north and south.

I'm not so much surprised that they get killed as why there seem to be so many deaths HERE. There doesn't seem to be any logical reason why there should be more than average.

There were 2 x 390 with arcing problems , unfortunately the 350/2 had the wires down around it later on. Not a good weekend for Crewe - Liverpool and certainly not a good day for both WC and EC today.

There is always the danger of copycat fatalities. However this year does seem to be worse everywhere on the network compared to others.

I got on the 0858 NCL-KGX, which arrived at about 0930 and was terminated at NCL a few minutes later, with the somewhat OTT announcement that anyone whose journey was not essential should travel tomorrow!

Everyone was able to get on the next KGX-bound arrival, the slightly delayed 0956...
