From bartonrail.org.uk

From Tuesday 5th December until further notice the 06.00 departure from Cleethorpes and the 06.58 departure from Barton will consist of one of the new Class 185 units instead of the hitherto Class 158 units as used on the TransPennine runs to Manchester. Due to the higher and longer dimensions of this type of train the following restrictions simultaneously come into force.

1) These trains will not call at New Clee, Grimsby Docks, Great Coates and Thornton Abbey where the platforms are lower than normal. Passengers wishing to alight at these stations should notify the conductor who will telephone to make alternative arrangements with Northern Rail.

2) At Healing, Ulceby, New Holland, Barrow Haven and Barton where the platforms are now shorter than normal only the central doors of the train will be operated.

3) No wheelchairs or bicycles will be carried on these trains and intending passengers should contact the conductor to make alternative arrangements.

Passenger use of the remaining services of each day is not affected.

15th December 2006

It wouldn't surprise me if the 170s made their way over to Barton, for the time being, passengers lucky enough to have it stop at their station will be able to listen to Mrs TPE  (I'd imagine she can say Barton, she can definately say 'Grimsby Docks', thats for sure

Yes but these are intended for use on Hull services. (On a related note the 158s have returned to the Hull route but in stupidly long formations such as 3 car + 2 car!)

I have to say that is very poor, considering it is supposed to be a local stopper. Then again, I suppose people who get on at the stations it does stop at will be very pleased with their nice new trains ;)

The old trick! "noone will notice that these are the old trains again if we make them reallllly long"

She would never shut up, especially on a stop-start branch line!

Looks like I'll have to get up early and go to the station for a pic

Good news to see some nice three-car trains on the Barton Line

If they want to avoid this situation though, they could always give the Barton line an hourly service all day and therefore an extra unit such as 153, Pacer or even 170 ;)

I found the Sheffield to manchester airport sounded a bit more realistic than a say for aguments sake a Birmingham Int to Liverpool LS with the auto announcers though. Then again it was bed time :headbang:
