I have a non safety critical medical with SWT in a couple of weeks. What will they be checking ?

Height & Weight (BMI)
Sight (eye test and colour-blind test)
Hearing
Alcohol and Drugs screening (pee in bottle)

They also ask general questions about your health. I had one for the Gateline role I'm in now and it's quite easy, the most important one is the Alcohol and Drugs screening, the others are mainly for Safety critical roles although you get assessed on them anyway.

Just out of curiosity, is there an upper limit on the BMI for different grades in safety critical roles or is it TOC specific?

EDIT: Having searched previous threads, it would seem 33 is the upper limit, although this limit seems to be TOC specific.

I just put a post up about this. Three weeks ago my BMI was 39 on the test. I weight train alot so im heavier than normal with been bulked up. I cant see how they would fail you especially when the guys at the interview saw what shape you were in. How could they knock back someone who is fit and healthy with a 39 bmi but take on a fat bloke who smokes with a 33 bmi. Its a bad way of judging someone.

Or the fat bloke who smokes may appear to be more experienced or peform better in tests/interviews then the fit person who doesnt smoke.


I agree though that your BMI shouldnt come into it - but thats what the private companies like BUPA sell to them as a package so thats why it gets taken on board. Never heard of there being a cut off BMI level though - sounds daft

Well that is very true clip, one thing iv learned in life is always listen to the experienced guy you can learn alot from them. Bmi does sound daft considering it was never designed to be used for medical terms just a weight guide.
