Hello,

I am safeguarded staff and have a staff travelcard with boxes. As I am disabled for the last few years I have had my travelcard endorsed to allow an attendant to travel with me when using a free box.

I have just received my new staff card and the accompanying letter says I must have an attendant with me, I cant travel on my own.

This seems to be a downgrading of conditions, as some of the time I can travel on my own, at other times I need an attendant to travel with me. I phoned RSTL who informed me I should have always travelled with an attendant and will be subject to a report of irregular travelling if i use a free box on my own without an attendant.

Apologies for the lenght of this enquiry, but would appreciate if anyone could clarify the position.

Regards,

Anthony

I'd say thats disability discrimination - they are preventing you doing something you are perfectly capable to do every now and again because of a disability that stops you doing it all the time.

Hate to sound unhelpful, but this appears to be an internal railway issue that really ought to be addressed with RSTL. Especially as the scheme rules are an internal document that has nothing to do with anyone not involved with the scheme.

I've found their freephone helpline to be most helpful in clarifying queries I've had with regards to the usage of my pass in the past - 0800 652 1700

How does this appear on the card itself? I hope this resolves itself speedily for you.

'And Attendant, Holder Disabled' is printed on the top of the card above my name.

It can be endorsed on the pass under the holder's name. One of my Privs had an "extra" endorsement on it so it can be done.

Thanks for all the advice. I have returned my staff travelcard and asked for one to be issued without the endorsement to allow me to use it when travelling alone without an attendant which I am able to do sometimes.

adn thanks to you for coming back to inform us.

Let's hope that this was just a simple oversight in your case and not some innapropriate policy which might have an adverse effect on other long serving staff.
