Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I'm travelling down to London Euston from Manchester Piccadilly for work, and want to make sure i get my money's worth (or should i say my work's money's worth ), does anyone know what time i would need to set off from Manchester Piccadilly to be able to receive the hot breakfast, not sure where the cut off e.g 10am applies. If i get a train at 9 does this qualify?

Anyone any experience of this food service, is it worth bothering about?

I can also only complement on VT breakfast. Both smoked salmon scrambled eggs and the mini full english breakfast are great. Never tried the veggie option.

You'll get breakfast from the first train at 0505 up to 0955 inclusive.

Correct.

Also note the menu now has Strawberry Compote, Yoghurt and Granola which is proving to be a popular choice.

No porridge for the summer months.

Cherry Danish now in place of croissants

It'll last you quite happily for the day before you feel hungry. I personally (after the novelty wears off :P) catch a train that best fits my schedule. If that means missing the breakfast train by 20 mins then I'd rather eat in town than hang around somewhere for 20 minutes.

I just had my first experience of the breakfast on Super Voyager. So far I always had the luck(?) of having morning travel on Pendolinos and was quite used to the choice there.

The Super Voyager breakfast is much smaller but I have to say equally good. Kind of a egg pancake, half of bacon rasher, few mushrooms, tiny sausage and some kind of tomato and onions mix. It smelled great and tasted great nevertheless.

I agree, I think the Super Voyager breki is very good, particularly when you consider the cooking equipment available.

So as not to start a new thread, can somebody confirm that the 1443 EUS-EDB serves a full evening meal north of Preston (1753)?

I think it's if you are on a train that departed its origin station before 1000, to be technical.

Correct. For example, the 10:29 from Crewe to London still offers a full breakfast (:D), but this also means that the 11:29 from Crewe to London still only offers those awful bacon rolls (:().

Not according to the timetable. There is no evening meal service on this train. There are some trains with enhanced light bites north of Preston (e.g. 1530 from Euston) but 1443 isn't one of them.

What's the shortest journey anyone's done and received the full English?

On East Coast, I've just about done it between Newcastle and Darlington, and theoretically (if I held a first anytime ticket), could have had another breakfast between Darlington and stations south of there if I'd chosen to have a Break of journey at Darlo.

I was very surprised today on my way back from Glasgow.

I was given a hot meal option straight after leaving Glasgow Central on 13:40 Pendolino to Euston. It was served before we even reached Carlisle. Nice hot Chilli con carne.
Certainly didn't expect that.

Pretty much. Actually, I don't think I finished it, that wasn't the question! ;)

Do they regularly do them on BHM to EUS? I know they try to avoid serving MK passengers coming out of Euston.

They don't serve food until after Milton Keynes (usually), which must make it a bit of a rush for Coventry passengers!

Generally:

Rugby stoppers between Rugby and Euston.

Watford stoppers between Cov and Watford.

Milton Keynes between Cov and Milton Keynes with the tea/coffee between Euston and Milton Keynes on the down.

Just for the record and people wondering whether the breakfast offer in First Class is worth the money. I even got a second serving of eggs and bacon :D

...which is complemented with toast (not the one slice between KGX and YRK on EC) and cereals. :)

This may seem an odd question, but just for the record, if I ever have a requirement to use a Virgin service at breakfast (which is unlikely, considering where I live), can you ask for the egg to be scrambled or replaced by extra bacon/sausage? I'm a bit of a heretic and don't normally like fried or poached eggs.

At the discretion of the train staff. I've read reports on here about such requests being both gracefully accepted and tersely denied. If the service is quiet and there are fewer passengers around you who are likely to see it as a reason to believe it's A La Carte then I think you may be more successful.

They already cook scrambled egg to go with the salmon so I find it surprising that they can't offer one/the other/both.

I thought you might say that. Thanks for the advice. I guess that portion control has to be a bit more strict if there is a greater number of passengers on board.

(No comments about EC, please! ;) )

Mind you, I might not want the scrambled egg if it had been near salmon, for health reasons (severe allergy to fish :( ). Still, that would be my fault for being fussy. Anyway, that's a bit off topic :s .

If it's a crew I know then they will give me extras or scrambled egg without question. With crew that work part time or are new then it's by the book which I expect. Either way, as a regular commuter who can handle people you'll be known very well and be treated better than a top guest Intercontinental hotel. I wish you the very best of luck in your niche. :)
