I set up with AXC an e-mail alert to inform me when advanced fares came available for a trip from Cornwall to Sheffield, have recieved this alert now however despite the e-mail telling me that they are now available to book from the 19th if you go to their website they aren't and you can't book beyond the 14th July. Had the same problem going down and ended up booking via London instead.

This is an oddity of the CrossCountry website. Never mind, just book the tickets here if you want a better booking engine or here if you want a similar booking engine.

I would recommend contacting CrossCountry about this issue as it may be a simple fix. Then again, it may not!

If there is a bug that is preventing XC's site from selling advance fares when they are available else where would it be advantageous for them to take some time investigating the issue and then some considerable extra time to test the fix in order to be sure that they have fixed it and no more issues will arise?

Not that I'm suggesting anything. ;)

There would be no benefit to them at all. The Advance tickets would still be sold - just by other websites and railway station ticket offices.

The Retailler retains a percentage of all sales.

Now you've got to be taking a very cynical view if you're saying that CrossCountry will inconvenience customers just to get that ~3% of the difference between the lower and higher priced Advance fares. ;)

Then again, we are talking about Arriva here...

Thanks guys, it's still coming up as £60+ for the advanced fare even though it came on sell today and the headline price is less than half that, so think I'll just end up waiting a week and coming back via Exeter, SWT to Waterloo & EMT to Sheffield even though it takes longer as will save me £25.

If they have told people that advance fares are available to buy and people go to there website (where they are not available due to this bug) then such people may think that the offered SVR's are the cheap advances that they had been waiting for, after all some people get mistaken by this even when the booking engine is working properly and with XC's prices its not surprising really,

If you don't mind the leisurely route, travelling via London is usually the best option. :) Sometimes it's almost as fast! (Although not in your case).

Of course it could be just something as simple as a database error with their email notification system.

Why would that be an "error" when the tickets have definitely been released? The e-mail isn't wrong, it's just that the website won't allow you to book the ticket!
