Sheer genius - I love it! (Though I do wonder how it'll get any sunlight to stay alive if they keep it there for long). Wonder whose idea it was.

Indeed, creating a 'deck' if you like over the concourse and moving a lot of the shops on the concourse up there, along a few high street names.

Recently they installed a temporary beach at Marylebone station, which was something to do with promoting travel to the seaside. Of course, in true railway style, Marylebone is the only London terminal where no services at all go to anywhere near the seaside...

It's advertising for Febreze, there's one at Vic too. I haven't looked closely, but the plants look plastic. Looks a bit tacky to me, and not just because it's merely advertising.

The basic idea is to remove all the freestanding retailm units from the concourse level, and I think that location is where they are removing the structures surrounding the eastern stairs down to the underground (Bakerloo/Northern/W&C)?

The stairs will have to remain, but I think there is scope to have much less room taken up at concourse level.

Well I was hoping to get a closer look yesterday morning but it had already gone and been replaced by a much less exciting mobile phone stand, so I guess I'll never know for sure. The fact that they moved it in and out so quickly does suggest maybe it was plastic.

Yep, you're correct. The boarding in the back of the photo is around the stairs down to the underground (the ones near platforms 7-8). The main renovation - creating the new shopping centre is behind where I was standing when I took the photo so you can't see it.

By the way the boarding around the underground stairs has been there for a very long time now - ever since the vert start of the rebuild when WH Smith still had a shop in the middle of the concourse, and if memory serves me right that's the better part of a year.
