There has been a Mk 1 slam door EMU stabled in the yard at Clapham Junction this past couple of days. Clearly visible from the through SWML platforms. Painted in all-over BR blue with what appears to be white trim round the edges of the windows. Also has the BR logo as plate rather than a sticker.

Anyone know anything about this??

Its the preserved 4VEP Gordon Pettit (423417), painted blue to mark the end of the Slam Door stock, which was gifted to the Bluebell Railway for £1.

It has since been looked after by a support group and stabled in various undercover locations such as Eastleigh Works, Bournemouth TMD and the shed at Clapham Jct when not offering rides between East Grinstead and the filled-in cutting at Imberhorne on the Bluebell's extension. As the last of those trips may have been carried out just recently, its long-term future is unknown.

As far as I know, the group do have aspirations to run properly on the mainline. It (He?) is in working order- only recently being used as a depot shunter at Wimbledon when Tornado was in to use the wheel lathe. Sadly though even when on non-passenger carrying positioning manouevers it is required to be hauled by (usally) a 73.

If it came from East Grinstead, how does it get in the shed?

Does it go under the SWML to Latchmere Junction and then up the lines used by LOROL?

Cheers Chris. Did some Google searches after seeing your post and that is definitely the one in the sidings. Shame it's sat outside in heavy rain for 2 days...

Acually i think the rules regarding use of mk 1 stock carrying passengers on the main line have been relaxed lately, haven't they? So perhaps there was no need for such a drastic cull in the first place ....

There was consultation if thats what you mean, but there have been no changes yet as far as im aware. If anything its the 'drastic cull' that allows a relaxing of the rules, because the remaining vehicles are almost entirely now used on railtours where they are used much less intensively.
