A teenager aged 19 has had unprotected sex with eight differant men even though she knows she has the herpes virus.

She seems to think its right to go sleeping with so many men without protection. She does say that most of them ask not to use a condom, so she actualy doesn't feel that bad about it - Realy?

She goes on to say that she is 'allergic' to normal latex condoms, and the non-latex ones are so expensive so she doesn't bother - Honestly!

The best part though is when she says, and I quote 'sex with me is worth the risk' - You realy do have a low opinion of yourself

Oh I'm sure her parents are real proud of her.

In other news, kids as young as 4 are getting in trouble for sexual misconduct

When did we come to this? You know half the people I went to school with are now parents (to get an idea of the age here, I'm 21). Infact one girl in my year had to take maternaty leave in year 10!

Who do we blame for all of this? The parents? The schools? The inderviduals themselves?

More to the point, what can we actualy do about it?

EDIT: Fixed typo in title

How to deal with it?

Banning prurient misleading drivel like The Sun would be a good start...

As YorkshireBear states, the vast majority of young adults in this country are nothing like this. She probably craves attention more than anything, and similarly probably lacks confidence. This might be a stereotype of this kind of person but stereotypes usually exist for a reason!

Precisely <D

Only they would consider this worth publishing. Even their lowlife rivals probably wouldn't bother.

Oh, hold on; did someone say "Sunday"?

At least it wasn't HIV. Still, people have to be careful with who they sleep with. If/when I visit London next year, I will bring a box of condoms so if I meet a nice British lady at a pub, I will have protection.

Ah yes, shoot the messenger. Always a good way forward.
Sadly this sort of thing is increasing, though it is still very rare. But the big difference from when I was a lad is that young people are more open and challenging about it. At primary school there was always a bit of "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" - natural curiosity, really - but I have recently come across cases of boys ganging up on girls and removing clothing or girls offering "services" - at Primary level.
Similarly with herpes girl. 40 years ago she would not think about such boasting - today it feels as if the girl who does not brag is the "freak". And speaking as the father of two daughters, teenagers do seem to be much more openly sexually active. This can be good - being able to discuss things openly is the best way to avoid trouble - but even in their early twenties these are still emotionally immature kids and damage can be severe.
I do not think it is possible or desirable to go back to an age when we pretended sexuality was not a part of the human condition from an early age. But this places the responsibiklity on us adults to make sure the youngsters know what they are doing, and what the consequences - particularly the emotional ones - really are.

Could I advice you buy the British ones that are manufactured to a much higher standard than those in the USA. (Also, air travel results in higher than normal levels of cosmic radiation and pressure variances that can put high levels of stress onto the construction of the thin latex, so I would recommend dropping into a pharmacy over here and purchasing some)

Anyway, for the article, "Puts her lovers in peril".

One: The're not her lovers, it's sex, no love there at all...

Two: If there was love, she'd care and use the protection, I do!

Three: I have been in situations where I care a great deal about the boy/man I'm with (in the eyes of the law he's borderline) and the slightest slip up, even though I know for certain that I'm clean would make me feel incredibly guilty for putting him at risk.

The sun may have you believe the whole youth of this country is coming to this but please dont believe it. Theres a lot who arn't like that. Im 19 and i know no one like that.

There's also the question of what this 'sexual misconduct' actually is, I know of plenty of "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" going on in schools for those even under the age of 10, now if this is classed as sexual misconduct...?

One can blame the lack of sexual education in schools and homes. (Again, re-enforced by how clueless some under 21s are nowadays, although some very willing to learn) such as the "Yes, you need lubrication too or the condoms are useless." (In a later conversation with his mother)

I'm obviously not familiar with the laws of the UK, but in America, "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" is not a crime. However, if a boy forcibly removes the clothing of a girl, that's sexual assault. I do not condone that.

Same in the UK, it's rape. If you want condoms just go to any pharmacy/ drug store and buy a box of 'Durex'.

"Ah yes, shoot the messenger" would be a valid criticism of my standpoint IF the messenger had any credibility.

If the article had appeared in the Guardian, Independent or Telegraph then it would deserve to be taken seriously.

However it appears in The Sun - a newspaper which has such respect for women that it displays them as semi-clothed sex objects - and thus is presumably designed to titillate rather than educate.

I repeat, BAN THE RAG!

This kind of reporting is in danger of becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. Should that happen it'll going to end up much worse than it is now - a sort of epidemic.

I agree with the sentiment but banning the Sun would have tough implications on press freedom. I'd prefer to see high standards brought in banning this kind of story appearing without mathematical quantification

edit: I like the irony of using countries instead of country's in the title (plus there is no "a" in different) ;)

Note how the article shows two large pictures - further featuring on the idea of treating women as sex objects.

What is wrong is that the stories mentioned in the OP is deemed more newsworthy than Jeremy Hunt's alleged sycophancy to Murdock, the economy and local elections - Who's to blame for that?

Them 8 lads must of been desperate to sleep with her.

I'm no saint so I got no right to go all catholic here but, even if you had no hope in life, kids aren't cheap compared to whatever they drink/do.

Tsk tsk - shouldn't need to tell you that it's must HAVE ;)

To be honest this whole thing has been blown out of proportion - the kind of ultra-sensationalist rubbish we expect from such a pathetic source of "information". This girl is being massively naïve and shows as much with ease in the article (among others, she started underage); from the perspective of the more intelligent adult (as most of us here are), what does it matter? She will regret it in time; it is whether she learns from it that matters. If anything, this might just put people off... might.

Can I add to that by noting that the latter is bordering on provocative? A predictable picture from a predictable rag.

No they are not. Oh, but I see you're banned now anyway.

Only 3 'other parts'

Anyway, perhaps we should be getting back to the actual subject of this thread?

Sorry, what's the 3rd 'other part'? Are we paying attention to the Family Guy version of abstinence and doing it in the ear or something?

Anyway yes, I think we should be taking anything from NI Group as wrong.

I'm sorry to say that I'm beginning to find some of the posts in this thread quite offensive, and suspect that the doubts over the number of bodily orifices has raised a frighteningly significant worry. They may be orifi.

Another terrifying offence was committed by Ascot and revealed by Ivo :
Tsk tsk - shouldn't need to tell you that it's must HAVE
but no one has yet named and shamed the worst offender, Heinz57 the OP, has commited in the thread title : 'Is this what the countries youth is coming to?'

countries ?

If we can't even get our case declensions right, then worrying about sexual offences is surely missing the point about the severity of our degenerative society!
;)
