Not sure of number, but the set on that was on the 0700 Hull executive to London Kings Cross was being dragged sorrily back to Leeds on its return to journey on the 1750 London Kings Cross-Leeds. I saw it half an hour late at Doncaster with the front power car (The Highlands?) idle, and the rear one completely dead. Probably an easy target for MTUs now :(

Anybody know what happened to it and where it failed? I'm sure that service was booked 91.

Had it already failed on the southbound from Hull?

To clarify, Max is talking about 21/12/06, and the information that 43008 was on the rear was correct for that date, and not today (22/12/06)

Notice how fGW failures don't get this publicity ;)

Because no one cares about Carrot Crunchers HST Power cars. ;)

MTU should solve the problem once all 43s are converting, also giving them a bit of extra horsepower. IIRC they're all derated to Valenta and Paxman horsepower at the moment so they're interchangeable or something like that...

I'm pretty sure that something being dragged passed me today as I was travelling between York and Darlington (or maybe Doncaster and York). I saw a flash of EWS livery and then a longer flash of GNER livery. It wouldn't suprise me if they were so desperate for stock today that dragging the failed set again was the best option.

It just shows how appauling GNER maintanance is-obviously as fGW has appauling maintanance as so many powercars are failing GNER must be in the same boat ;)

Just a quick question. How, exactly, do you know for certain that FGW have appauling maintenance?*

Or could it just be the Valentas coming towards the end of their working lives and deciding to go out with a *bang*. Quite literally in almost all cases.

*To set the record straight, I don't know myself, so don't abuse me. Thankyoop.

No no. When fGW powercars fail it's always down to maintenance as far as fGWhaters are concerned when it is not always the case. Although when it comes to GNER its 'saddening' and must have been a freak accident. So i'm turning the scales ;)

Lets just say. FGW hsts and GNER hsts both fail more than alot (FGW more so). Where as the mighty MML hsts just dont brake down as much 8), moral of the post is, go via MML hsts even if you wanna head west 8)

Oh yes quite right there Liam.
When a FGW P/C decides to fail its "oh look it's happened again".

Yup failures only affect FGW don't they

I have several questions that affect this debate...

How many servicable Valentas is there left?

Why have FGW and GNER opted for new MTU engines?

Why don't MML run their Valenta power cars much?

Why is there suddenly much more interest in Valenta HSTs than ever before? ;)

It's what's known as lastminute.com! I can remember doing the Fort Bill beds behind 37423 in the 1990s and me and my mate were the only enthusiasts on it. It got to the last few months and every man and his dog decided to go for it for a final (or first) trip!

Nope,

MTU P/Cs will stay rated at 2,250 hp, unless you want the Brush alternators self-destructing and the auxilires/wiring frying.

If anyone wants me to go technical, i can!
