I was half thinking of bashing the Virgin diversions on this date from Nuneaton to Coventry and then via the Chiltern route to London Euston. Does anyone know what route it will take to get from the Chiltern main line to Euston?

It's a nice run around for a change. Did it last year & the 10-car Voyager was standing room only from Euston in rear unit with only a couple of 1st class seats left in the front. Decided to upgrade. I seem to remember these 'Virgin Blockbuster' trains have been formed of three 5-car units in the past.

Don't forget Liverpool are playing in the cup final the previous day, and there are no return services after the match.

Well I feel compelled to write a positive comment, I was searching for a train home from Coventry to London for next Sunday 6th May and despite an engineering blockade around Rugby there were several direct trains available to book, they even had reasonable advance fares available! I really wanted to avoid any replacement bus faffery as I will have a bike with me - was even able to book a bike reservation on the diverted service.

I'm sure a few years ago the railway industry would have dismissed this idea as 'too difficult' and forced everyone onto buses so I just wanted to commend the people who have gone to the trouble of making this happen, it must've taken a lot of negotiation to get the paths etc. Pleasing, reminds me of BR days (not that I'm an old git or anything!).

BTW I'm guessing this train will head for Greenford from South Ruislip and pass through Ealing / Acton / Willesden en route to Euston, unless it carries on to Neasden / Dudding Hill / Harlesden and reverses at Acton Wells for Euston?? Anyone know the planned route?

The scheduled route is in the second post. When you open the link click 'Detailed' in 'Options' in the top right corner. I cannot see any reverse movements booked - it does from Acton Wells to Camden Jn direct.

Think your first route was right, unlikely it would reverse. Will turn at Greenford then go through drayton green, then come off the GWML at Poplar Junction. On the open train times link above, click top right corner and choose detailed mode http://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/S74507/2012/5/6

I did a bash a few weeks back when they ran this route, there is no reversing involved and some of the tracks around Greenford South Junction, amongst others, cannot be done using regular scheduled passenger services iirc.

I've herd a rumour that the 1611 from Euston to Birmingham new street on 06/05/12 is to be formed of top n tailed 57. Does any now how much truth is behind this rumour?

Doubt it Opentraintimes says that its Power type is 'Class 220/221 DMU' and Speed '125mph'.

It's changed because of the FA Cup, extra capacity is needed.

The following are all formed of WB64 with TnT Class 57s:
1Z03 1011 Euston-Nuneaton
1Z14 1323 Nuneaton-Euston
1Z15 1611 Euston-Birmingham New Street

And the following are 15 car Voyagers:
1Z05 1111 Euston - Nuneaton
1Z16 1423 Nuneaton - Euston
1Z17 1711 Euston - Birmingham New Street (until Nuneaton)

1Z07 1211 Euston - Nuneton
1Z18 1523 Nuneaton - Euston
1Z19 1811 Euston - Birmingham New Street (until Nuneaton)

That exactly what trust indicates for that service but there is an additional loco hauled ecs booked from new street to Euston shortly after that service arrives at new street.

Is Nuneaton station long enough for 15 car voyagers, or are they going to have to lock coaches out of use ?

Also last time I looked at 1Z19 it was shown going straight to Crewe from Nuneaton.

I believe that now terminates at Intenational, where it stables until the line reopens.

Makes no difference, it wouldn't be timed any differently if it was loco hauled. We don't ever time the Pretendalino on anything but 390 times.

The Pretendolino wouldn't be able to keep to 390 times though because it can't tilt.

Yes, and Virgin know this too, but as it doesn't tend to lose more than 3 minutes in a section it rarely pings up a delay for it. It sometimes won't meet PPM though.

That's because VT let their drivers drive properly, unlike some TOCs !

It's quite often 10-15 minutes late by Birmingham New Street when working 1K39 but it has 15 minutes dwell time there, and doesn't tend to lose much time Birmingham-Crewe.

How does the WTT compare to the PTT for this service?

So on sunday, there are 15 car voyagers, and T&T 57 MK3s. Wow! Spotters are gonna be in for a real treat there. :)

Set now doing the 1111 out of Euston due to a problem with the set being blocked in at Wembley.

Virgin are doing a set swap at Coventry with 1323 from Nuneaton so all sets can return to original diagrams

Noticed that the morning train was an hour late into High Wycombe. For those who are interested it was hauled by an Arriva Class 47 and tailed by the 57. Returned through HWY at approx 15:05 ish.

Arriva don't have any 47s, but Virgin have 4 57s in Arriva colours, was it one of those? :)

I went from Coventry to Euston and back today (mainly track-bashing, with the added incentive of lunch in London), on 221105+104 on 1Z08 10:43 Coventry-Euston and 221114+110 on 1Z13 15:11 Euston-Coventry. Passed one of the 15-car formations in Willesden SW Sidings at about 12:30 on its way north, which was 1Z07 12:11 Euston-Nuneaton formed of 221108+116+109. Also passed the 57s+Mark 3s heading south through South Greenford at about 15:35, about 20 minutes late on 1Z14 13:43 Coventry-Euston.

None of them seemed too full, though, which was a surprise - I guess the main rush will be later in the evening?
